Are contraceptive pills safe?

Hi, I am having contraceptive pills since last year, and haven't faced any issues yet. However, I have gained weight (around 2-3 kgs), which feels very difficult to lose. Apart from this, are there any long-term side affects of having these pills that usually happens? Assuming that I am not planning kids ever.
