Hi, I am Siddarth and I live in Germany. Just a few hours before, I got a dog bite my a domestic dog and after going to the hospital the doctor has recommended me to take antiobiotics Amoxiclav 875/125 for 7 days. 2 each everyday. I have also got Tetanus vaccine but as the dog was vaccinated the doctor told I don't require rabies vaccine. Is the Antibiotics actually necessary ? I was quite worried of taking them if it was unnecessary. Please suggest. Thanks.

Even though pet is fully vaccinated, dog's saliva has numerous bacteria in it. It will leads serious infection to human. That may be the reason your physician has prescribed the antibiotics. Kindly follow your prescription

Antibiotics are basically given to prevent any secondary bacterial infection due to bite. Though taking unnecessary antibiotics leads to resistance. In your case you can go for topical antibiotic creams which are also effective well.
