Antibiotics after Dog bite
Hi,
I am Siddarth and I live in Germany. Just a few hours before, I got a dog bite my a domestic dog and after going to the hospital the doctor has recommended me to take antiobiotics Amoxiclav 875/125 for 7 days. 2 each everyday. I have also got Tetanus vaccine but as the dog was vaccinated the doctor told I don't require rabies vaccine.
Is the Antibiotics actually necessary ? I was
quite worried of taking them if it was unnecessary.
Please suggest. Thanks.

Dog bite exposes you to conditions like abscess/infected wounds other than potential risk of rabies(which has a different protocol as per geographical areas). So following your physician's advice is the best advice I can give you. Hope this clears your doubts.

Antibiotics are basically given to prevent any secondary bacterial infection due to bite. Though taking unnecessary antibiotics leads to resistance. In your case you can go for topical antibiotic creams which are also effective well.
