Ligament sprains often take a long time to fully heal due to constant weight bearing. The best solution is to strengthen the intrinsic foot muscles first, then peroneal muscles , hip (glutes) & abdominal. Often I find the calf being very tight which could be one of the reasons for the injury itself. Releasing the calf to regain full flexibility in the ankle is very crucial. Lastly one should concentrate to train the ankle in different surfaces like grass, mud, stones to activate intrinsic foot muscles. "Intrinsic foot Muscles" are smaller ankle muscles which are very crucial in ankle strength & agility. There are no machines or medicines which will fully recover ankle injuries without one exercising seriously. People who use more footwear have weaker intrinsics. It's better to avoid sporting till your ankle fully recovers. Try also barefoot walking on different surfaces. Walking barefoot activates these smaller ankle muscles for faster recovery. Good Luck.
