Normal mechanics of the ankle is lost after fusion surgery and the walking style or what we call gait will be a little different from the normal side. Hence it is the last resort in treatment. The benefit of pain relief is far greater than maintaining function I such circumstances.
Next Steps
Discuss with operating surgeons about his or her expectations from the surgery and also if other treatment options exist.
