Sometimes neck swelling can be due to multiple reasons Ear infection, sinus infection, dental infection, some rare type of infections, autoimmune diseases, cysts, lymphnodes, viral infections lastly cancer.

Swelling of thyroid gland is called goitre. So needs to be evaluated. Get a scanning done and have a follow up.
