Since symptoms are persisting despite antacid use, a stronger acid-suppressive treatment such as a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) may be required under medical supervision. Lifestyle modifications are equally important: avoid spicy, oily, and acidic foods, tea/coffee, smoking, and late-night meals; eat smaller meals; maintain adequate hydration; increase dietary fiber intake; and avoid lying down for at least 2–3 hours after meals.
Next Steps
Consult a physician/gastroenterologist for evaluation and appropriate treatment. If symptoms persist despite therapy, upper GI endoscopy may be considered.
