If you're comfortable, you can start walking non weight bearing with applying weight over the normal limb.
You may feel a mild pain on the affected side when you start walking due to muscle stiffness and weakness.

You should a proper Physiotherapy session so that all the exercises are gradually started and increased step by step as per your convenience and comfort..
You can plan kids whenever you feel comfortable with your pain and walking.
If there is no discomfort, you can continue with plate and screws throughout your life.
If at any point after 2 to 3 years, if you feel discomfort, implant removal may be planned.. but normally, that is not required.
