A to Z vitamin drop related query

Hi Doctor, My 3-month-old baby (born at 35th week) is currently taking a separate Vitamin D3 supplement. Yesterday, his doctor advised starting Vit A to Z drops (1 ml daily), but I noticed it also contains Vitamin D3. With both, the total Vitamin D3 intake will be around 800 IU per day. Is this safe, or what to do in this situation.

Thank you for your concern. For infants, the recommended daily intake of Vitamin D3 is around 400 IU per day. Some pediatricians may advise up to 800 IU/day in specific cases like prematurity or low birth weight, but this should be done under close monitoring. Since your baby is already getting Vitamin D3 separately, adding A to Z drops (which also contain Vitamin D3) increases the total dose to around 800 IU daily. While this is not immediately toxic, routine supplementation above 400 IU/day is generally not necessary unless specifically advised by your doctor based on clinical needs. 👉 Suggested action: Either stop the separate Vitamin D3 drops and continue with A to Z drops alone (if they provide close to 400 IU of Vitamin D3), or confirm with your pediatrician whether your baby really needs the additional D3.

Hello, I understand your concern The recommended daily dose for infants (0–12 months) is 400 IU/day, but doses up to 1,000 IU/day are considered safe in preterm or at-risk infants. Your baby, born at 35 weeks (late preterm), needs good support for bone growth and immunity in the early months. Vitamin D plays a key role in this, especially if sun exposure is limited.
Next Steps
Your pediatrician will reassess needs based on growth, feeding, and sun exposure.
Health Tips
Ensure the drops are measured correctly (not more than prescribed). Do not combine with other supplements unless advised.
