Amniocentesis test suggested
Hi My sil double marker test was done and the test came to be positive, so doctor suggested amniocentesis test. What are the chances that these test to be positive. Pls explain. Thank you

The amniocentesis is test which would confirm the presence of abnormal chromosomal patterns in the fetus . If she doesn't wish to opt for an invasive procedure which carries associated risks , she can go for a maternal blood test which detects fetal DNA .

Hi, This risk is high. The very purpose of doing Double marker is to find out if the risk is high and send these patients for confirmation by Amniocentesis and Karyotyping- chromosome testing. Every patient is counselled on these lines before the test. Logical would be to discuss further with your Gynecologist and take an informed decision
