Disulfiram (Alkonix) is not safe to start on your own. It should never be given secretly or without the patient’s consent, as it can cause severe, even life-threatening reactions if he consumes alcohol after taking it. Since your husband is drinking heavily and also not eating well, starting disulfiram could be very risky.
Next Steps
The best step is to first get him evaluated by a psychiatrist or de-addiction specialist, who can decide the safest treatment option (which may include medicines like naltrexone or acamprosate, along with counselling). If he is drinking continuously for days without food, supervised medical detoxification in a hospital may be necessary to avoid complications.
Health Tips
Please do not start Alkonix without medical supervision.
