As my wife having Type1 Diabetes since 3 years i.e from the age of 21, now she is conceived naturally 2.5 months old Does the type 1 diabetes is Heredity?? I heard type 1 is due to Disorder at pancreases doesn't propagate with genes.And her father having diabetes & consuming insulin, she is also consuming insulin. Could you please make me clear about heredity propagation???

Yes, type 1 diabetes can be hereditary if father or mother are also type 1 diabetic. If father is Type 1 diabetic, the chances would be 4% and if mother is Type 1 diabetic, the chances would 6%. If both are Type 1 diabetic, then the chances would be 8% in their children. However as she is pregnant, her type 1 DM should be regularly followed up with an Endocrinologist and her blood sugars has to be regularly checked and should be kept under good control. Thank you!
