Proctosedyl typically contains a local anesthetic (like cinchocaine or lidocaine) and a mild steroid (hydrocortisone) designed to temporarily numb pain and reduce surface inflammation. If the swelling is a clotted vessel (thrombosed hemorroid), a structural tissue tag, or an underlying collection (abscess), surface steroid and numbing creams will have little to no impact on making the lump go away. Furthermore, using steroid-containing creams for more than a week without medical supervision can thin the delicate local skin. Please do gentle warm sitz baths to soothe the area, and avoid any straining. Please consult a general surgeon or a proctologist physically examine the swelling and manage it.
