2 years on PPIs: Constipation
2 years on PPIs: Constipation, spice sensitivity, post-meal brain fog & possible SIBO? I have been taking PPIs for 2 years. After switching from 3 to 6 meals a day, I developed persistent constipation that has lasted for months (currently relying on husk). My symptoms include: IBS-Like Pain: Even tiny amounts of spicy food trigger lower abdominal pain before/during bowel movements, relieved after pooping. In the following days, my appetite drops and constipation worsens. Post-Meal Brain Fog: Severe fog and uneasiness after breakfast, which improves slightly after lunch. Sugar Reactivity & Cravings: Intense sugar cravings. Eating sugar causes sweating and shakiness, making it hard to focus at college unless I give in to cravings. Given my 2-year PPI use, could this be SIBO (Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth), reactive hypoglycemia, or gut motility changes? Thank you.

Care AI Shimmer
Constipation and brain fog together after two years on PPIs are worth a proper gut workup, not just fiber and husk. A SIBO breath test can check whether bacterial overgrowth is behind this.
Next Steps
Please see a gastroenterologist for a SIBO breath test and to review whether staying on the PPI long term is still needed.
Health Tips
Don't stop or change your PPI dose on your own, since sudden changes can affect your symptoms.
