A veterinarian is a doctor who diagnoses and treats injuries, and disorders in animals. They focus on improving the health and ensure the well being of pet animals, animals on farms, in zoos and also in a natural habitat such as forest reserves.

It takes a period of four years to be a veterinarian. In three years, after 10+2 education in science stream. You will get a Bachelor's degree (B.VSc). You can study further and get a Master's degree after studying for two more years.

A veterinarian deals with animals which are either pets or used in farms, poultry, dairy, zoo and wild animals. A veterinarian is responsible for diagnosing and treating diseases in animals and perform surgeries. Veterinarians can also share their expertise in animal food industries.

The different branches for a bachelor's and master's degreein veterinary sciences include parasitology, surgery, wild life studies, veterinary surgery and radiology, animal nutrition, veterinary anatomy and histology, dairy processing, live stock production, veterinary medicine public health and hygiene and veterinary physiology, veterinary obstetrics and gynaecology.

In veterinary sciences, specialization branches are available at the degree level studies. To perform a surgery on animals, you need to complete your bachelor's degree in veterinary sciences (BVSc) take surgery as a subject for master's degree.
