Dr. Peerzada Ovais Ahmad

Dr Peerzada Ovais Ahmad, MBBS, PhD, PDF, has over eight years of distinguished research and clinical experience in Diabetes & Endocrinology, with a special focus on youth-onset and pediatric diabetes in India. He possesses advanced expertise in contemporary diabetes management modalities, including Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM), Continuous Subcutaneous Insulin Infusion (CSII), and Multiple Daily Injections (MDI).Dr Ovais played a pivotal role in establishing a young-onset diabetes registry in Jammu & Kashmir and collaborated internationally with Professor Bruce King (Australia) to develop an innovative diabetes management program tailored to resource-limited settings.His work has earned global recognition, including the prestigious Allan Drash Clinical Fellowship (2020) and the ISPAD-JDRF Award (2022), where he became the first Asian recipient. He has further been honoured with the Best Diabetes Innovation Award (2025) by the Research Society for the Study of Diabetes in India and the Best Innovation in Diabetes Care and Awareness Award (2026) by Diabetes India.Dr Ovais has also been conferred the distinguished title of Senior Fellow by the International Diabetes Federation (2026), reflecting his sustained contributions to global diabetes care.His doctoral research included a landmark randomised controlled trial on vitamin D supplementation in pregnant women in India. He was also instrumental in initiating the Life for a Child Program at SKIMS, Srinagar, significantly improving access to care for children with Type 1 diabetes.His contributions have been internationally recognised and featured in The Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology, underscoring his leadership and impact in advancing pediatric diabetes care in the Kashmir region.
