Psychologists study the mind and behaviour of people. A clinical psychologist has specialised training in diagnosing and treating mental illnesses.

Psychiatrists are trained medical doctors. They can prescribe medications. They mostly help manage conditions by medication management. Psychologists mainly practice behavioural intervention to treat mental and emotional suffering in patients and practice psychotherapy.

Psychologists assess, diagnose and treat people experiencing mental illness and psychological distress. They also develop treatment plans and perform psychotherapy. Clinical psychologists work to prevent, diagnose, treat, and prevent mental disorders.

One should consult a psychologist if they experience any of the following conditions:
• Anxiety
• Stressful life events like loss of a loved one
• Depression
• Struggling to focus
Or any mental health difficulty.
Psychologists conduct a detailed assessment of your mental health to identify the problem and help you with strategies to cope with it.

As psychologists are not medical doctors, they cannot prescribe medicines. However, in some countries, psychologists who have done a course in psychopharmacology are allowed to prescribe certain medications in limited amounts.
