Trigeminal neuralgia is a condition in which you experience sudden and severe pain in the face. The trigeminal nerve in the face is responsible for bad pain. You may experience intense pain is like an electric shock in the jaw or one side of the face.

Pain is the main symptom associated with trigeminal neuralgia. You may feel this pain at one side of the face, on the cheeks, teeth or any part of the jaw. The pain is sudden, sharp and unbearable. It lasts for a few seconds to two minutes. Sometimes, the pain is throbbing and accompanied by a burning sensation. The pain attacks are recurrent and the intensity increases with time.

The condition is not completely curable, but treatment is available for relief of symptoms. Treatment can also help delay complications of the disease.
