Atrial fibrillation is caused by increased and uncontrolled blood pressure, a history of heart attack, coronary artery disease, issues in the heart valves, heart defects developed during birth, an overactive thyroid gland, regular consumption of caffeine, tobacco or alcohol.

Many people with atrial fibrillation live normal lives, and one episode of AFib usually is not fatal. However, atrial fibrillation can cause strokes, which can be deadly.

The primary symptoms of atrial fibrillation are irregular and increased heartbeat or palpitations, weakness, fatigue, reduced capacity of exercise, light-headedness, dizziness, shortness of breath and chest pain.

Episodes of atrial fibrillation suddenly occurs and fade out; however, in case the recurrent atrial fibrillation requires treatment. Since atrial fibrillation itself usually is not deadly, sometimes, a serious medical condition arising from it requires prompt medical attention.

Atrial fibrillation is the phenomenon of irregular heartbeats (also known as arrhythmia) that can develop into various complications such as stroke, heart failure, blood clots and other heart-related disorders.
