Description
Zincoderm S Ointement is a combination medicine consisting of clobetasol, salicylic acid and zinc oxide. It is used for the treatment of a variety of skin conditions such as psoriasis, dermatitis, eczema, and allergies. It provides relief from the symptoms like itching, swelling, redness and also prevents further irritation of the skin. It works by blocking the action of certain chemical messengers that causes allergic symptoms. Zincoderm S Ointement may rarely cause some side effects like burning, irritation, itching, and redness at the application site. Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to it. Seek medical help if you experience any allergic symptoms like rashes, itching, swelling, shortness of breath after using this medicine. Your doctor may perform a patch test before starting treatment with this ointment as it can cause skin allergy. Avoid using this ointment in children below 12 years of age. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, consult your doctor before using this medicine. Zincoderm S Ointement should be applied to the affected areas 1-2 times a day with clean and dry hands. This medicine is meant for external use only. Rinse with water immediately, if it gets in contact with your eyes, nose, mouth, or other smooth muscles. Keep the affected area clean and dry because the presence of water can increase microbial growth. If the condition and symptoms do not get better within seven days of use, consult your doctor.

Chronic application

Cushing's syndrome

Zincoderm S Ointement may cause hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis suppression and causes Cushing's syndrome (high cortisol levels) when you use high doses for a prolonged period. Any symptoms like muscle weakness, swelling of the face should be reported to your doctor immediately.

Salicylism

Prolonged use of Zincoderm S Ointement may lead to a toxic condition marked by ringing in the ears, nausea, and vomiting (salicylism). Appropriate corrective measures or replacement with a suitable alternative may be necessary based on your clinical condition.

External use

Zincoderm S Ointement is only recommended for external use. Avoid contact with the mouth, eyes, mucous membranes, cuts, grazes, or wounds.

Missed Dose

Apply the missed dose of Zincoderm S Ointement as soon as you remember. Do not apply more quantities to compensate for the missed dose.

How it works
Clobetasol works by reducing the swelling and congestion of the blood vessels. Salicylic acid works by softening and loosening the dry, scaly, or thickened skin which, in turn, causes shedding of the outer layer of skin. Zinc oxide has astringent and soothing properties that promote healing of the lesions on the skin.
