Description

Vilazodone is used to treat the symptoms of depression. This medicine should not be discontinued abruptly due to the risk of withdrawal symptoms. It is not recommended for use in children.

Allergy

This medicine is not recommended for use in patients with a known allergy to vilazodone.

Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAO)

Vilazodone is not recommended for use in patients taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOI) due to the increased risk of serotonin syndrome. A time gap of at least 14 days should be maintained between stopping therapy with MAOIs and starting therapy with Vilazodone.

General warnings

Suicidal behavior

This medicine should be used with caution due to the increased risk of suicidal behavior. Patients should be monitored closely for any changes in behavior or mood. Appropriate dose adjustments or replacement with a suitable alternative may be required based on the clinical condition.

Abnormal bleeding

This medicine should be used with caution due to the increased risk of bleeding. This risk is especially higher in patients using other medicines such as NSAIDs, aspirin, warfarin, etc. Report any symptoms such as unusual bleeding or bruising, blood in stool or urine, etc. to the doctor on priority. Close monitoring of blood cell counts may be necessary based on the clinical condition. Appropriate dose adjustments or replacement with a suitable alternative may be required based on the clinical condition.

Discontinuation of treatment

Do not stop the use of this medicine without consulting your doctor. Abrupt discontinuation may cause withdrawal symptoms such as nausea, headache, anxiety, dizziness, and irritability. Gradual dose reduction should be done under the doctor's supervision.

Serotonin syndrome

This medicine should be used with caution due to the increased risk of a serious and life-threatening condition called serotonin syndrome. Report any unusual symptoms to the doctor on priority. Drowsiness

Vilazodone may cause drowsiness or sleepiness. It is advised that you do not perform any activities that require high mental alertness such as driving a vehicle or operating machinery during treatment with this medicine.

Missed Dose

If a dose of Vilazodone is missed, take it as soon as you remember. It is advisable to skip the missed dose if it is almost time for the next scheduled dose. Do not use extra medicine to make up for the missed dose.

Overdose

Seek emergency medical treatment or contact the doctor immediately in case of an overdose. Symptoms of an overdose may include dizziness, loss of consciousness, lethargy, restlessness, hallucinations, etc.
