Valaciclovir

Description

Valaciclovir is an antiviral agent used in the treatment of infections caused by herpes viruses such as genital herpes, cold sores, shingles (herpes zoster infection), etc. This medicine does not cure herpes; it helps in preventing outbreaks of the infection and lessens the risk of the virus spreading to other people. It may also be used for the treatment of chickenpox (Varicella zoster infection).

This risk is especially higher in patients suffering from HIV infection, patients with a history of kidney diseases, as well as in the elderly patients. Close monitoring of clinical condition, appropriate dose adjustments, or replacement with a suitable alternative may be required in some cases based on the clinical condition of the patient.

Driving or Operating Machinery

This medicine may cause symptoms such as blurred vision, dizziness, drowsiness, etc. in some patients. It is advised that you do not perform any activities that require high mental alertness such as driving a vehicle or operating machinery if you experience any of these symptoms during treatment with this medicine.

Missed Dose

The missed dose should be taken as soon as possible. It is advisable to skip the missed dose if it is already time for your next scheduled dose. Do not use extra medicine to make up for the missed dose.
