Description
Unicarbazan Forte Tablet is a combination medicine which may be used for prevention and treatment of worm infections such as tropical pulmonary eosinophilia, filariasis, loiasis, etc. It is not recommended to prevent or treat the infections caused by pinworms and tapeworms.

Allergy

This medicine is not recommended for use in patients with a known allergy to Diethylcarbamazine, Chlorpheniramine or any other inactive ingredients present in the formulation.

Onchocerciasis (River blindness)

Patients being treated with this medicine for onchocerciasis may experience Mazzotti reaction which may be characterized by fever, headache, dizziness, vomiting, lymphangitis, or asthmatic attacks. These patients should be monitored closely and supportive care should be initiated based on the severity of the reaction.

Benign prostatic hyperplasia

This medicine is not recommended for use in patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia (enlarged prostate) since it may cause increased difficulty in passing urine.

Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOI)

This medicine is not recommended for use in patients taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOI) due to the increased risk of serious and life-threatening side effects. A time gap of at least 14 days should be maintained between stopping therapy with MAOIs and starting therapy with this medicine.

This medicine is not recommended for use in pregnant women unless absolutely necessary. All the risks and benefits should be discussed with the doctor before taking this medicine.

Breast-feeding

General warnings

Prolonged use

Prolonged use of this combination medicine may cause tunnel vision, night blindness, or loss of vision.

Use in severely ill patients

Do not use this medicine in severely ill patients with other acute diseases until their recovery.

Epilepsy

This medicine should be used with caution in patients with epilepsy since it increases the risk of seizures. An alternative treatment option may be necessary in some cases based on the clinical condition.

Heart Diseases

Use of this medicine is not recommended in patients with cardiac diseases due to the increased risk of severe side effects like tachycardia. Report any unusual symptoms to the doctor on priority. Missed Dose

How it works
Diethylcarbamazine acts on both the movement of the worms and the surface layer of the worms, making them easier to kill. The worms are then killed by the immune system of the body. Chlorpheniramine blocks the action of certain substances produced by the body which induces allergic reactions.
