Description
Telista-CH 40/6.25 Tablet is a combination medicine consists of Chlorthalidone and Telmisartan. This anti-hypertensive medicine is used to reduce high blood pressure. It relaxes blood vessels and removes excess water and sodium from the body. Thus it improves blood flow and reduces blood pressure, thereby reducing the chances of you having a heart attack or stroke. It is important that you frequently monitor your blood pressure and maintain a healthy lifestyle while on treatment with Telista-CH 40/6.25 Tablet. Telista-CH 40/6.25 Tablet shows common side effects like tiredness, nausea, headache, diarrhoea, and stomach upset. Consult your doctor if the side effects persist for a long time. It may also cause dizziness, so get up slowly when rising from a sitting or lying down position. Telista-CH 40/6.25 Tablet can be taken with or without food. It contains a diuretic (water pill) and will make you urinate more, so avoid taking it within four hours before going to bed. Do not stop taking this medicine before consulting your doctor. Your blood pressure may seem to be in control but the abrupt stopping of this medicine may lead to a high risk of heart attack and stroke. Telista-CH 40/6.25 Tablet is not recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Avoid drinking alcohol while on treatment with this medicine as it may further decrease your blood pressure. Inform your doctor about any medical conditions that you may have, like diabetes and heart, liver and kidney problems, before taking this medicine.

Allergy

Do not take Telista-CH 40/6.25 Tablet if you are allergic to it. Allergic reactions such as hives (painful eruptions that itch and sting), difficulty in breathing, swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat can be seen. Inform your doctor immediately, if you notice such symptoms.

Aliskiren

Coadministration of aliskiren (a medicine used to reduce blood pressure) and Telista-CH 40/6.25 Tablet is not recommended due to the increased risk of kidney damage. This risk is especially higher in old people and in people with diabetes and kidney troubles.

Anuria

Anuria is a condition where the kidney is unable to form urine. This medicine acts by removing excess water and sodium from your body. Using this medicine if you have pre-existing kidney problems will lead to its accumulation and further damage to your kidney. Hence, Telista-CH 40/6.25 Tablet is not recommended for use if you have kidney troubles.

Pregnancy

Telista-CH 40/6.25 Tablet is not recommended in pregnancy as it can cause serious complications to your foetus. If you are on this medication, consult your doctor before you plan your pregnancy.

Breast-feeding

Telista-CH 40/6.25 Tablet is not recommended for use in breastfeeding as it can pass through breastmilk and lead to low blood pressure symptoms in your baby.
General warnings

Hypotension

Telista-CH 40/6.25 Tablet is not recommended for use if you have hypotension (low blood pressure) as it will further decrease your blood pressure which can be dangerous. Also, if you are taking diuretics (water pills) or are being treated for volume depletion (loss of fluids in the body due to severe diarrhoea/vomiting, burns, kidney problems, etc), this medicine is not suitable for you.

Hyperkalemia

Telista-CH 40/6.25 Tablet may increase potassium levels in the blood (hyperkalemia). This may cause serious side effects such as cardiac rhythm irregularities(changes in the heartbeat). It is advised that you avoid potassium-rich foods (potatoes, bananas) and other medicines that may increase your potassium levels (ACE inhibitors and potassium supplements) during treatment with this medicine.

Use in children

Telista-CH 40/6.25 Tablet is not recommended for use in children below 18 years of age, since the safety and efficacy data of this medicine for use is not available.

Volume and electrolyte disturbances

Telista-CH 40/6.25 Tablet may alter your blood volume and electrolyte levels. This may cause dizziness, dry mouth, irregular heartbeat and acid-base imbalance (an imbalance between carbon dioxide (acid) and bicarbonates (base) in your blood). This risk is especially higher if you have kidney and liver troubles. Your blood pressure and electrolyte levels have to be closely monitored while you are taking this medicine.

Kidney diseases

If you have pre-existing kidney problems, Telista-CH 40/6.25 Tablet will further worsen your condition leading to severe damage to your kidneys. This medicine has to be used with caution if you have kidney problems. Your doctor will suggest tests to periodically monitor your kidney function.

Driving or operating machinery

Use of Telista-CH 40/6.25 Tablet may cause symptoms such as drowsiness, blurred vision, or dizziness in some people. It is advised that you do not perform activities that require high mental alertness like driving vehicles or operating heavy machines during treatment with this medicine if you experience any of these symptoms.

Missed Dose

If you forget to take a dose of Telista-CH 40/6.25 Tablet, take it as soon as you remember. If the next dose timing is near, skip the missed dose. Take your next dose at its time. Do not double your dose to compensate for a missed one.

Overdose

Never take Telista-CH 40/6.25 Tablet more than the prescribed dose. If you suspect that you might have taken an overdose of this medicine, inform your doctor and seek immediate medical help.

Diabetes

Telista-CH 40/6.25 Tablet can alter your blood glucose levels. If you are diabetic, use this medicine with caution. Monitor your blood glucose levels regularly.

Hyperuricemia

Hyperuricemia is an increased level of uric acid in the blood. Telista-CH 40/6.25 Tablet should be used with caution if you have chronic kidney failure due to the increased risk of hyperuricemia. Your doctor will suggest tests to monitor your blood uric acid levels as well as your kidney functions.

Hyperlipidemia

Hyperlipidemia is the increased levels of cholesterols and triglycerides in the blood. Telista-CH 40/6.25 Tablet should be used with caution if you have hyperlipidemia since it may increase your cholesterol and triglyceride levels. Your doctor will suggest tests to monitor your cholesterol and triglyceride levels.

Hypotension

Hypotension is a decrease in your blood pressure. Using Telista-CH 40/6.25 Tablet will further reduce your blood pressure which can be fatal, especially if you have low levels of sodium in your body or if you have low fluid volumes due to excessive vomiting, diarrhoea, burns, kidney failure, etc.

Take Telista-CH 40/6.25 Tablet with or without food. Do not take in larger amounts than advised/prescribed. Telista-CH 40/6.25 Tablet may cause dehydration. Drink plenty of fluids and inform your doctor if you develop extreme thirst, very dry mouth or muscle weakness. This medicine may cause dizziness. Get up slowly when rising from a sitting or lying position. Consult the doctor if you experience any undesirable effects. Do not stop taking the medicine without consulting your doctor as it may cause withdrawal symptoms. Along with this medicine, making certain lifestyle changes like regular exercise, weight control, quitting smoking, limiting alcohol use, and lowering the quantity of salt will help you to have better control over your blood pressure. Do not chew, crush or break the tablet. Take the tablet immediately after peeling it from the strip.

How it works
Telmisartan relaxes the blood vessels and promotes the smooth flow of blood. Chlorthalidone increases the excretion of water and sodium from the kidneys.
