Sodium Tetradecyl Sulfate

Description

Sodium Tetradecyl Sulfate is used for the treatment of uncomplicated varicose veins in the legs, a condition where the veins become large, twisted and swollen when the vein valves do not work properly. This medicine is not recommended for use in patients less than 18 years of age.

Allergy

This medicine is not recommended for use in patients with a known allergy to Sodium Tetradecyl Sulfate or any other inactive ingredients present along with it.

Thrombophlebitis

This medicine is not recommended for use in patients suffering from Thrombophlebitis (a condition of inflammation of veins) due to the increased risk of worsening of the patient's condition.

Uncontrolled systemic diseases

This medicine is not recommended for use in patients with uncontrolled systemic diseases as diabetes, hyperthyroidism, tuberculosis, asthma, neoplasm, sepsis, blood dyscrasias and acute respiratory or skin diseases due to the increased risk of worsening of the patient's condition.

Pregnancy

This medicine is not recommended for use in pregnant women unless necessary. All the risks and benefits should be discussed with the doctor before receiving this medicine.

Breast-feeding

This medicine is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women unless necessary. All the risks and benefits should be discussed with the doctor before receiving this medicine.
General warnings

Bedridden patients

This medicine is not recommended for use in bedridden patients or patients unable to walk due to any cause. Replacement with a suitable alternative may be necessary based on the clinical condition.

Varicosities caused by tumors

This medicine is not recommended for use in patients with varicosities caused by a pelvic tumor or abdominal tumor unless the tumor has been removed.

Anaphylactic shock

A small dose of 0.5 ml of this medicine should be injected into varicosity and the patient have to be observed for several hours for signs of allergic reactions especially anaphylactic shock. Appropriate corrective treatments should be readily available in any such cases of allergic reactions.

Migraine

A small dose of this medicine has to be administered to patients with a migraine due to the risk of adverse effects. Appropriate dose adjustments or replacement with a suitable alternative may be necessary based on the clinical condition.

Extravasation

This medicine has to be administered very carefully to avoid extravasation, as this can cause severe tissue necrosis.

Use in Children

This medicine is not recommended for use in patients less than 18 years of age since the safety and efficacy of use are not clinically established.

Missed Dose

Since this medicine is administered by a qualified health care professional in the clinical or hospital setting, the likelihood of a missed dose is very low.

Overdose
