Description

Secnidazole is an effective medicine to treat infections caused by protozoa and certain strains of anaerobic bacteria. It is used to treat infections of the stomach, intestine, urinary tract and genital area.

General warnings

Renal/Hepatic impairment

This medicine should be used with caution in patients having an impairment of the kidney/liver function. Use is not recommended if the impairment is severe. Appropriate dose adjustments and more frequent monitoring are advised if the impairment is mild to moderate.

Drowsiness

Use of this medicine has been associated with drowsiness in some patients. It is advised to refrain from driving and operating heavy machinery at least in the initial phase of treatment with this medicine.

Disulfiram

Report the use of Disulfiram (antiabuse medicine) to the doctor. Use of this medicine may cause severe psychosis in some patients and hence co-administration should be prevented.

Bleeding disorder

Use of this medicine may worsen the symptoms of a bleeding disorder. Report any instance of a bleeding disorder, both in the past and present, to the doctor. You may require undergoing some tests to determine the safety of use of this medicine.

Alcohol

Avoid the uptake of alcohol while using this medicine as the risk of adverse effects are significantly high.

Missed Dose

Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next scheduled dose then the missed dose can be skipped.

Overdose

Seek emergency medical treatment or contact the doctor in case of an overdose. Symptoms may include nausea, severe stomach pain, confusion, impairment of thinking etc.

Description
