Description
Satrogyl-O Tablet is a combination medicine consisting of satranidazole and ofloxacin. This medicine is used for the treatment of diarrhoea and dysentery caused by a microbial infection in adults. It works by preventing the growth of infection-causing microorganisms. Satrogyl-O Tablet may cause some side effects such as nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, loss of appetite and headache. These side effects generally subside with time. Consult your doctor if any of these effects persist for a long time. Besides taking Satrogyl-O Tablet, drink plenty of water to counteract the dehydration caused by diarrhoea. Satrogyl-O Tablet is not recommended if you are pregnant or breastfeeding unless clearly needed. This medicine is not recommended for use in children less than 18 years of age. Inform your doctor if you have liver or kidney problems before taking Satrogyl-O Tablet. Satrogyl-O Tablet can cause drowsiness. Avoid driving or any activity that requires concentration after taking this medicine. Do not consume alcohol while using Satrogyl-O Tablet as it irritates the stomach and also causes excessive drowsiness.

Allergy

Tendinitis or tendon rupture

General warnings

Tendinitis and Tendon ruputure

Use of Satrogyl-O Tablet will increase the risk of developing tendinitis or tendon rupture during the treatment or several months after the treatment. This may affect your shoulders, hands, ankles, or other parts of your body. You are at a higher risk if you are more than 60 years of age or if you have undergone a transplant of kidney, heart, or lung. You are also at a higher risk if you are on corticosteroids like dexamethasone, methylprednisolone, or prednisone. Report any unusual symptoms to the doctor immediately.

Drug-resistance

Satrogyl-O Tablet should be used to treat infections only. Unnecessary use may not provide any benefit and may even cause toxicity. It may also increase the risk of the development of bacteria that are drug-resistant.

Photosensitivity

Satrogyl-O Tablet may make you more sensitive to sunlight. You are advised to use sunscreen and wear protective clothing to avoid serious reactions to sunlight during treatment.

Liver impairment

Satrogyl-O Tablet should be used with caution if you have liver problems due to the increased risk of serious undesirable effects. Your doctor may suggest tests for monitoring your liver function while on treatment with this medicine.

Neurodegenerative disorders

Satrogyl-O Tablet should be used with extreme caution if you have any neurodegenerative disorders. Appropriate dose adjustments or replacement with a suitable alternative may be necessary based on your clinical condition.

Driving and operating machinery

Missed Dose

How it works
Satranidazole prevents protozoa or bacteria's growth by stopping the protein formation process, leading to the death of the bacteria or protozoa. Ofloxacin blocks an enzyme required for the replication of bacterial DNA which blocks their multiplication and growth. This results in the eventual death of the bacteria.
