Rivaroxaban

Description

Rivaroxaban is a blood thinner medicine. It is used to treat and prevent blood clot formation in conditions such as deep vein thrombosis (DVT, blood clots that form in the deep veins of the body, usually in the thigh or lower leg), pulmonary embolism (PE, blood clots that block one or more arteries in the lungs), and atrial fibrillation (AFib, irregular heart rhythm that may increase the risk of blood clots). It may also be used to prevent clot formation post knee or hip surgery. Rivaroxaban may cause side effects such as nosebleeds, dizziness, bleeding gums, headache, tiredness, nausea, vomiting, etc. Consult your doctor if these symptoms last for a long time or become severe. Avoid taking this medicine if you are allergic to it. Rivaroxaban may be taken with or without food. The dose and duration of treatment will be decided by your doctor based on the severity of your condition. Take this medicine at the same time every day for the ease of remembering. Do not stop taking this medicine without consulting your doctor, as it may increase the risk of blood clots and worsen your condition. Rivaroxaban is not recommended for use if you have a prosthetic heart valve (an artificial heart valve implanted in the heart to replace a heart valve that is not functioning properly) or active bleeding (due to conditions like lesions, stomach ulcers, surgery, etc.). Consult your doctor if you have liver or kidney problems or any other medical conditions before taking this medicine. Also, inform your doctor about all your current medications to avoid any undesired effects. Rivaroxaban is not recommended for use in children below 18 years of age as the safety and efficacy data are not clinically established. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy, or are breastfeeding.
