Description

Ramelteon is used for the treatment of insomnia in patients who have difficulty falling asleep. This medicine is not recommended for use in children and adolescents.

Allergy

General warnings

Moderate hepatic impairment

This medicine should be used with caution in patients with a known history of moderate hepatic impairment (Child-Pugh B) due to the increased risk of worsening of the patient's condition.

Drowsiness

Ramelteon makes you drowsy and induces sleepiness. It is advised that you do not perform any activities that require high mental alertness such as driving a vehicle or operating heavy machinery after consumption of this medicine.

Use in children

This medicine is not recommended for use in children and adolescents since the safety and efficacy of use are not clinically established.

Missed Dose

If you miss a dose of this medicine, take it as soon as you remember only if you want to sleep for 6-8 hours. Do not take the dose if you are not willing to sleep.

Overdose

Seek emergency medical treatment or contact the doctor in case of an overdose.

Depression

This medicine is not recommended for use in patients with a known history of depression due to the increased risk of worsening of the patient's condition. Close monitoring of the patient for any changes in behavior or mood is recommended. Replacement with a suitable alternative may be required based on the clinical condition.
Food interactions
It is advised that you avoid consumption of caffeine during treatment with Ramelteon since it may increase the risk of side effects such as daytime drowsiness, motor impairment, amnesia, anxiety, and hallucinations.
Taking this medicine with or immediately after a heavy meal may delay the effects of Ramelteon. It is advised that you take this medicine within 1 to 30 minutes before bedtime.
