Description
Quinax 300 MG Tablet is an effective antimalarial medicine obtained from the bark of the cinchona tree. It is used alone or with other medicines to treat uncomplicated Plasmodium falciparum malaria. It may also be used to treat and prevent night leg cramps in adults and the elderly population when these cramps disrupt the sleep constantly.

Allergy

This medicine is not recommended for use if you have a known allergy to quinine, other related antimalarial medicines like mefloquine, quinidine, etc. or any other inactive ingredients present along with the formulation.

G6PD deficiency

This medicine is not recommended for use in patients having this rare hereditary condition where the red blood cell function is abnormal.

Quinine associated blackwater fever

This medicine is not recommended for use in patients having a history of blackwater fever associated with quinine use.

Myasthenia gravis

This medicine is not recommended for use in patients suffering from myasthenia gravis (a condition where muscles tire rapidly) due to the increased risk of adverse effects.

Optic neuritis

This medicine is not recommended for use in patients suffering from optic neuritis (a condition where the nerve fibers of the eye are damaged) due to the increased risk of adverse effects.

Tinnitus

This medicine is not recommended for use in patients with tinnitus (ringing of ears) due to the increased risk of adverse effects.

General warnings

Antacids

Report the regular use of medicines taken for reducing acidity. This medicine may interact with acidity regulating medications and may potentially cause side effects.

Heart diseases

This medicine should be used with caution in patients with heart diseases due to the increased risk of severe adverse effects. Close monitoring of heart function, appropriate dose adjustments, or replacement with a suitable alternative may be required in some cases based on the clinical condition.

Driving and operating machinery

Use of this medicine may cause symptoms such as spinning dizziness, blurred vision, or other visual disturbances in some patients. It is advised that you do not perform any activities that require high mental alertness such as driving a vehicle or operating machinery if you experience any of these symptoms during treatment with this medicine.

Low blood sugar

This medicine is known to cause a fall in blood sugar levels upon consumption. Close monitoring of blood glucose levels, appropriate dose adjustments, or replacement with a suitable alternative may be required in some cases based on the clinical condition.

Kidney impairment

Use in children

This medicine is not recommended for the treatment of malaria in patients less than 10 years of age since the safety and efficacy of use are not clinically established. This medicine is not recommended for the treatment of nocturnal leg cramps in patients less than 18 years of age since the safety and efficacy of use are not clinically established.

Missed Dose

How it works
This medicine works by interfering with some vital functions inside the cell of the parasite present in the human blood. It interferes with the parasite's ability to digest hemoglobin and also its multiplication. It also reduces the excitability of a motor nerve fibre and a muscle fibre of skeletal muscle thereby helps to treat and prevent night leg cramps.
