Description
Potrate M Tablet is an alkalinizing agent which is used for the prevention and treatment of kidney stones. This medicine works by neutralizing stone-forming salts in your urine, therefore treating and reducing your risk for kidney stones. Potrate M Tablet may cause side effects such as nausea, vomiting, stomach discomfort, tiredness and weakness. Most of them are temporary and go away on their own. Consult your doctor if these side effects are getting persistent and/or worse. Potrate M Tablet with food to avoid stomach discomfort. Your dose will be dependent on your condition. Take the medicine same time every day to maintain a constant level of medicine in your body. Do not stop taking this medicine without consulting with your doctor as your symptoms could come back. Potrate M Tablet is not recommended if you are allergic to it or have severe kidney problems. Inform your doctor all about your current medications and existing medical conditions. This will help your doctor to adjust your dose for avoiding side effects. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, consult your doctor before taking this medicine.

Allergy

Potrate M Tablet is not recommended if you are allergic to it. Seek immediate medical attention if you notice any symptoms such as skin rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, breathing difficulty, etc.

Hyperkalemia

Potrate M Tablet is not recommended if you have hyperkalemia (high blood potassium levels) as it can further increase your potassium levels which may worsen your condition.

Addison's disease

Potrate M Tablet should not be used if you have Addison's disease (a disorder in which the adrenal glands don't produce enough hormones) as it may worsen your condition. Your doctor may replace your medicine with another suitable medicine in such cases.

Severe kidney impairment

Potrate M Tablet is not recommended for use if you have kidney problems as an impaired kidney will not be able to filter the medicine properly. This can increase the risk of toxicity.

General warnings

Dehydration

Potrate M Tablet should be used with extreme caution if you have/had dehydration as it may alter the fluid balance in your body, worsening your condition. Your doctor will closely monitor your fluid levels and/or adjust your dose if required.

Potrate M Tablet may interact with many other medicines and may cause severe adverse effects. Hence, it is advised that you inform the doctor about all your current medicines including any herbs and supplements before beginning treatment with this medicine.

Missed Dose

Take the missed dose of Potrate M Tablet as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not double your dose to make up for the missed dose.

How it works
Potrate M Tablet makes some changes in the urine and alkalizes the stone-forming salts such as calcium phosphate, calcium oxalate, and uric acid thereby dissolving the kidney stones. It also raises urinary pH and makes the urine less acidic.
