Description
Optidoz Tablet is a combination of Hydrochlorothiazide, Amlodipine and Telmisartan used for the treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure). It relaxes the blood vessels by widening them and promotes smooth blood flow. Optidoz Tablet also increases the excretion of water and sodium, thus resulting in decreased blood pressure. Optidoz Tablet has some common side effects like swelling in your ankles or feet, dizziness, headache, tiredness, an upset stomach etc. Consult your doctor if these side effects persist or worsen. Optidoz Tablet can be taken with or without food. The dose and duration of treatment will be determined by your doctor. You should not stop taking Optidoz Tablet without consulting your doctor as it can lead to serious heart conditions. It is advisable to take this medicine at least 4 hours before going to bed as this medicine increases your frequency of urination. Optidoz Tablet can interact with other medications. Therefore, inform your doctor if you have liver, heart and kidney problems, etc. To ensure that Optidoz Tablet is working effectively, you should have your blood pressure, kidney function, electrolyte levels, and blood sugar levels tested regularly. Optidoz Tablet is not recommended for use in children below 18 years of age. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy, or are breastfeeding.

Allergy

Aliskiren

Do not take Optidoz Tablet with Aliskiren (a medicine used to reduce blood pressure) as it can lead to serious side effects such as kidney problems, low blood pressure, and excessive potassium levels in the blood. This risk is especially higher in the elderly and/or if you have diabetes (high blood sugar levels) and kidney problems.

Anuria

Anuria is a condition where the kidney is unable to produce urine. Optidoz Tablet can lead to a loss of electrolytes like sodium and potassium, magnesium ions, etc. from your body. This may further lead to kidney damage.

General warnings

Liver impairment

Use Optidoz Tablet with extreme caution if you have liver problems or obstruction in the bile duct. This medicine is largely excreted in bile (fluid secreted by the liver for digestion). This can increase the risk of side effects on your liver due to a higher level of medicine in the blood. Consult your doctor for a dose adjustment or alternate medicine.

Use in children

Optidoz Tablet is not recommended for use in children below 18 years of age since the safety and efficacy of use are not clinically known.

Hyperkalemia

Optidoz Tablet should be used with caution as it may lead to Hyperkalemia (increased potassium levels in the blood). Consult your doctor and monitor your potassium levels regularly.

Volume and electrolyte depletion

Optidoz Tablet may alter the blood volume and electrolyte levels in some cases causing dizziness, dry mouth etc. This risk is especially higher if you have kidney and liver problems. Consult your doctor if you have any severe symptoms.

Kidney disease

Optidoz Tablet may cause azotemia (increase in the level of blood urea and nitrogen) if you have severe kidney problems. While taking this medication, it is important to monitor your kidney function. Based on the clinical situation, your doctor may consider appropriate dosage adjustments or replacements with a suitable alternative.

Driving and operating machines

Optidoz Tablet may cause dizziness or drowsiness. If you have any of these symptoms while taking this medication, you should avoid performing tasks that need high mental attention, such as driving vehicles or operating machines.

Missed Dose

If you forget to take a dose of Optidoz Tablet, take it as soon as you remember. If it is time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and take your next dose at your usual time. Do not double your dose.

Overdose

Never take more than the prescribed dose. Seek immediate medical attention if you have taken an overdose of Optidoz Tablet. In case of an overdose, symptoms like lethargy, drowsiness, nausea and vomiting can be seen.

Hyperlipidaemia

Hyperlipidaemia is a condition in which there is an increase in the level of fat or lipids in the blood. Optidoz Tablet should be used with caution as it can increase your cholesterol levels and may worsen your condition.

Hypotension

Optidoz Tablet may cause a decrease in blood pressure. The risk is high if you have conditions such as volume depletion (excess loss of salt and fluid in the body due to excessive vomiting, diarrhoea, burns, kidney problems, etc.) or if you are treated with high-dose diuretics (medications that increases the removal of water and salt from the body via urine).

Diabetes

Optidoz Tablet should be used with caution if you have Diabetes mellitus due to the increased risk of altered blood sugar levels. Monitor your blood sugar levels regularly while taking this medicine.

Hyperuricemia

Optidoz Tablet should be used with caution if you have a history of kidney failure, due to the increased risk of hyperuricaemia (high blood uric acid level). Your doctor will suggest tests to closely monitor your blood uric acid levels.
Food interactions
Consumption of grapefruit juice is not recommended during treatment with Optidoz Tablet. Grapefruit juice can increase the absorption of this medicine in your blood. This could lead to excessive lowering of blood pressure or worsen the side effects.
Avoid potassium-containing foods and supplements while taking Optidoz Tablet as symptoms such as weakness, confusion, irregular heartbeat, etc. may occur. Your dietitian/doctor may suggest appropriate changes in your diet based on your clinical condition.
