Description
Olimab 60 mg/ml PFS Injection is used for the treatment of osteoporosis (a condition where bone density reduces and bones becomes weak and fragile) in men and postmenopausal women who are at high risk for fractures and have failed to respond to other medication treatments for osteoporosis. It is also used for the treatment of bone loss in men with prostate cancer and women with breast cancer receiving therapy with medications that cause bone loss. This medicine also reduces the risk of fractures in patients with bone cancer and multiple myeloma (a type of blood cancer).

Allergy

This medicine is not recommended for use in patients with a known allergy to denosumab or any other inactive ingredients present along with it.

Hypocalcemia

This medicine is not recommended for use in patients with hypocalcemia (decreased blood calcium levels). The low blood calcium levels should be corrected with appropriate treatment in such patients before starting therapy with this medicine.

Breast-feeding

This medicine is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women unless absolutely necessary. Discuss all the risks and benefits with your doctor before receiving this medicine.
General warnings

Infections

Since this medicine can cause bone marrow suppression, the patients are susceptible to serious and opportunistic infections. Report any symptoms such as a fever, chills, shortness of breath, sore throat, etc. to the doctor immediately. Appropriate corrective measures, dose adjustments, or replacement with a suitable alternative may be required based on the clinical condition.

Calcium and vitamin D supplementation

It is recommended to take supplementation containing calcium and Vitamin D in patients receiving this medicine unless hypercalcemia (increased blood calcium levels) is present.

Hypocalcemia

This medicine may lower the blood calcium levels and hence should be used with extreme caution in patients who are predisposed to hypocalcemia (decreased blood calcium levels). The low blood calcium levels should be corrected with appropriate treatment in such patients before starting therapy with this medicine. Close monitoring of blood calcium levels, appropriate dose adjustments or replacement with a suitable alternative may be required in some cases based on the clinical condition.

Osteonecrosis of the jaw (ONJ)

This medicine may cause osteonecrosis of the jaw (ONJ) on therapy in some patients. Appropriate corrective measures, dose adjustments, or replacement with a suitable alternative may be required based on the clinical condition.

Severe bone, muscle and/or joint pain

This medicine may cause severe bone, muscle and/or joint pain on therapy in some patients. Appropriate corrective measures, dose adjustments, or replacement with a suitable alternative may be required based on the clinical condition.

Missed Dose

Since this medicine is usually administered by a qualified healthcare professional in the clinical/hospital setting, the likelihood of a missed dose is very low. If you miss any scheduled session, contact your doctor immediately for further instructions.

Overdose

Since this medicine is administered in the hospital setting by a qualified healthcare professional, the likelihood of an overdose is very less. However, emergency medical treatment will be initiated by the doctor if an overdose is suspected.
