Description
Oflox N Tablet is a combination of Nitazoxanide and Ofloxacin. It is used orally to treat diarrhoea caused by bacteria and parasites (micro-organisms that live in other's body and use their body's nutrients to reproduce). Nitazoxanide kills parasites by interfering with their energy production and Ofloxacin kills bacteria by blocking their reproduction process. The common side effects of Oflox N Tablet use are nausea, vomiting, headache and stomach pain. Usually, these side effects are self-resolving. Consult your doctor if any of these side effects persist or worsen. Discontinue Oflox N Tablet and inform your doctor immediately if you get a rash, itchy skin, swelling of face and mouth, or have difficulty in breathing. You can take Oflox N Tablet with or without food. Take your medicine on time to maintain its steady levels in your body. Avoid consuming this medicine more than the prescribed dose as an overdose may harm you. Do not skip any doses and finish the full course of treatment even if you feel better. Stopping it early may make the infection come back and harder to treat. Oflox N Tablet may cause dizziness. Refrain yourself from driving and operating a machine if you feel dizzy after taking this medicine. Avoid the consumption of alcohol while taking this medicine as it can cause dizziness. Use Oflox N Tablet cautiously if you are having tendon rupture (injuries) and brain disorder. To make sure Oflox N Tablet is safe for you, share your entire medical and medication history with your doctor before using this medicine. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or are breastfeeding.

Allergy

Tendinitis or tendon rupture

Oflox N Tablet can cause muscle damage especially in old age. Avoid Oflox N Tablet if you have tendonitis (swelling of fibres that attach bone with muscles) or tendon rupture (a partial or complete tear of the tendon- the tissue that connects muscle to bone).

Myasthenia gravis

Myasthenia gravis is a skeletal muscle weakness condition characterized by severe muscle weakness under your voluntary control, including the arms and legs. Oflox N Tablet should be avoided in case of myasthenia gravis since it may get worsen.

Oflox N Tabletis not recommended for use in pregnancy unless absolutely necessary.

Breast-feeding

Oflox N Tablet is not recommended for use if you are breastfeeding. You may be advised by your doctor to discontinue breastfeeding while taking this medicine. Once breastfeeding gets resumed after the therapy, the baby should be observed for diarrhoea and yeast infection.
General warnings

Liver diseases

Oflox N Tablet gets converted into its active form in your liver. An impaired liver cannot convert this medicine properly and accumulation of this medicine takes place in your liver. This accumulation may worsen your liver condition.

Muscle damage

Oflox N Tablet can cause muscle damage usually on the tendons that surround your ankle. Inform your doctor if you feel pain, numbness, or tingling sensations in your muscles.

Antibiotic resistance

Finish your entire course of treatment with Oflox N Tablet, even if the condition gets better to avoid antibiotic resistance (the bacteria may become resistant to antibiotics). If you still feel unwell after completing your antibiotic course, make an appointment to consult your doctor.

Driving or operating machinery

Therapy with Oflox N Tablet may cause blurred vision, confusion or dizziness and hence do not perform any activities such as driving a vehicle or operating machinery if you experience any of these symptoms.

Photosensitivity

Oflox N Tablet may make you highly sensitive to sunlight or UV (ultraviolet) radiation. You are advised to use sunscreen and wear protective clothing to avoid adverse reactions to sunlight during treatment with this medicine.

Missed Dose

If you forget to take a Oflox N Tablet dose, make sure that you remember to take your next dose on time. Do not take two doses together to make up for a forgotten dose.

Overdose

Never take Oflox N Tablet more than the prescribed dose. If you suspect that you might have taken an overdose of this medicine, go to the emergency department of your local hospital.

Kidney Disease

Oflox N Tablet is excreted by kidneys. An impaired kidney cannot filter out this medicine properly and accumulation of this medicine takes place in your kidneys. This accumulation can worsen your kidney condition.

How it works
Oflox N Tablet is a combination of Nitazoxanide and Ofloxacin. Ofloxacin works by inhibiting an enzyme required for the bacterial DNA to replicate, thus inhibiting bacterial cell division. Nitazoxanide interferes with the energy production of the parasites and prevents its growth that causes diarrhoea.
