Description

Norlut N 5 MG Tablet is a synthetic form of progestin and has a similar action to the female hormone, progesterone. It is used to treat menstrual disorders and abnormal vaginal bleeding in women caused due to hormonal imbalances. It is also used for birth control to prevent unwanted pregnancies.

    This medicine is used for the treatment of a type of cancer where the tissue lining the uterus grows outside and causes pain.
  • Abnormal uterine bleeding

    This medicine is used to prevent of episodes of prolonged and heavy bleeding during menstrual periods.
  • Amenorrhoea

    This medicine is used to treat an absence of menstrual period in woman of reproductive age.
  • Contraception

    This medicine is used as an oral contraceptive to prevent unwanted pregnancies.
  • Premenstrual syndrome

    This medicine is also used for the treatment of symptoms that occur between ovulation and onset of the menstrual period. Symptoms may include headache, mood disturbances, water retention, breast pain etc.
  • Breast cancer

    This medicine is also sometimes used in the treatment of certain types of breast cancer.

  • Allergy

    This medicine is not recommended for use if you have a known history of allergy to Norethisterone or any other progestin analogue.
  • Liver disease

    This medicine is not recommended for use if the patient has a severe impairment of liver function.
  • Abnormal vaginal bleeding

    This medicine is not recommended for use if you have an abnormal bleeding episode which has not been diagnosed by a doctor.
  • Breast/Uterine cancer

    This medicine is not recommended for use if you have or are suspected of having hormone related cancer of the breasts, uterus or other sex organs.
  • Heart and blood vessel disorder

    This medicine is not recommended for use in patients having an active or historic instance of stroke or heart attack. It should not be used by patients having an active or historic blood clotting disorder.

Dosage

    Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next scheduled dose then the missed dose can be skipped. It is recommended to use additional means of contraception if you have missed a scheduled dose.

    - Use of this medicine is known to cause mild to moderate amounts of fluid retention in the body. Hence, caution is advised while administering in patients with diseases like epilepsy, asthma, migraine, heart and blood vessel disorders, kidney impairment etc.
  • Depression

    - Use of this medicine is known to cause a varying amount of depression in different individuals. It should be carefully prescribed in patients having a history of depression. Use of this medicine should be discontinued if the depressive episode becomes more frequent and severe.
  • Vision abnormalities

    - Use of this medicine can cause blurring of vision and other effects on the eye like proptosis, diplopia etc. Patients should be carefully examined to confirm if they can safely use this medicine. Any side effects like blurred vision, excessive drying of eyes should be reported to the doctor.
  • Blood clotting disorder

    - Use of this medicine can cause the formation of a blood clot in the artery or a deep vein (thromboembolism) resulting in severe to fatal adverse effects. The use of this medicine should be stopped if any such condition is confirmed.
  • Diabetes

    - Use of this medicine can affect the blood glucose levels and hence caution is advised while treating a diabetic patient.
  • Irregular menstrual bleeding

    - Use of this medicine may cause irregularities in the menstrual cycle. Suitable tests should be performed to rule out other caused if an episode or irregular bleeding occurs while using this medicine.
  • Surgery

    - Use of this medicine should stop at least 4 weeks before a planned surgery or prolonged immobilization.
  • Cancer

    - Prolonged use of this medicine has been associated with increased risk of breast and cervical cancer. It should be administered with caution in patients exposed to the risk factors.
  • Use in children

    - This medicine is not recommended for use prior to menarche (beginning of the menstrual cycle in girls).
  • Other medicines

    - This medicine may potentially interact with a large number of other medicines that you might possibly consume. Hence it is advised to report the use of all other medicines including supplements and herbs to the doctor.
  • Other disease

    - Report the incidence of any disease of the heart and blood vessels, thyroid glands, liver, kidneys etc to the doctor. You may require taking certain tests to determine the safe and effective use of this medicine in such cases.
  • Smoking
