Description
Nor Metrogyl Tablet is a combination of Norfloxacin and Metronidazole. It is used in the treatment of infections of the stomach, intestines and urinary tract caused by parasites (an organism living in another organism for its survival). It works by stopping the growth of microorganisms responsible for infections. Nor Metrogyl Tablet may show some common side effects such as stomach ache, difficulty in sleeping, headache, nausea, vomiting etc. These side effects subside gradually, but in case of any severity, consult your doctor. Avoid driving vehicles or operating machines as this medicine can make you feel dizzy. Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to it. Nor Metrogyl Tablet is taken generally after having your meal, as prescribed by your doctor. Try taking this medicine at the same time every day to maintain a constant level of medicine in your body. Finish the entire course of treatment even if you feel better to avoid antibiotic resistance. Nor Metrogyl Tablet is not recommended to be used in children and adolescents below 18 years of age. Inform your doctor about all your pre-existing conditions and your current medications to avoid any side effects. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, consult your doctor before taking this medicine.

Allergy

Avoid taking Nor Metrogyl Tablet if you have this condition as this medicine can compromise your tendon function and increase the risk of injury, especially in your weight-bearing joints.

General warnings

Antibiotic Resistance

Incomplete course of Nor Metrogyl Tablet may cause antibiotic resistance (ability of bacteria to overcome the effect of antibiotic).

Liver disease

Nor Metrogyl Tablet is converted in liver to become active. This medicine should be used cautiously as an affected liver cannot convert the medicine into its active form. This can increase the chance of side effects and toxicity. Your doctor can adjust your dose or replace it with a suitable medicine if required.

Use in children

The safety and effectiveness data of Nor Metrogyl Tablet have not been established in children and adolescents less than 18 years of age.

Driving or operating machinery

Nor Metrogyl Tablet may cause dizziness or sleepiness and interfere with eyesight. Hence do not drive vehicles or operate machines after taking this medicine.

Myasthenia gravis

Myasthenia gravis is a long-term condition that leads to varying degrees of skeletal muscle (muscles attached with bones) weakness and fatigue. Nor Metrogyl Tablet is not recommended to be used if you have this condition as it can worsen your weakness and fatigue.

Missed Dose

Take Nor Metrogyl Tablet as soon as you remember. If it is time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume to the scheduled time.

Kidney Disease

Take Nor Metrogyl Tablet cautiously if you have kidney conditions as an affected kidney will not filter this medicine properly. This can increase the risk of kidney damage. Dose adjustments may be required, based on your clinical condition.

QT Prolongation

Nor Metrogyl Tablet may cause a heart rhythm problem called prolonged QT intervals (an electrical heartbeat disturbance) if you are taking heart medications. It may result in fast, rapid, and irregular heartbeats.

Colitis

Take Nor Metrogyl Tablet with extreme caution if you have gastrointestinal (stomach and intestines) diseases, particularly colitis (swelling of the inner lining of the colon), as it may worsen your condition.
Food interactions
Nor Metrogyl Tablet will not show its desired effects if consumed with dairy products. At least two hours gap should be maintained between this medicine and dairy products.
Avoid using Nor Metrogyl Tablet along with multivitamins with minerals. If needed it is suggested to use it before 2 to 4 hours of taking multivitamins with minerals or after 4 to 6 hours of taking multivitamins with minerals.

How it works
Nor Metrogyl Tablet is composed of Metronidazole and Norfloxacin. Metronidazole interferes with the DNA of the bacterial cell and thereby stops the protein synthesis processes. Norfloxacin stops the action of a bacterial enzyme called DNA-gyrase. This helps to kill or prevent the growth of bacteria in the body.
