Description
Nizonide-O Oral Suspension is a combination of Nitazoxanide and Ofloxacin. It is used orally to treat diarrhoea caused by bacteria, parasites (micro-organisms that live in other's bodies and use their body's nutrients to reproduce). Nitazoxanide kills parasites by interfering with their energy production and ofloxacin kills bacteria by blocking their reproduction process. The common side effects of Nizonide-O Oral Suspension use are nausea, vomiting, headache and stomach pain. Usually, these side effects are self-resolving. Consult your doctor if any of these side effects persist or worsen. Discontinue Nizonide-O Oral Suspension and inform your doctor immediately if you get a rash, itchy skin, swelling of face and mouth, or have difficulty in breathing. You can take Nizonide-O Oral Suspension with or without food. Take your medicine on time to maintain its steady levels in your body. Avoid consuming this medicine more than the prescribed dose as an overdose may harm you. Do not skip any doses and finish the full course of treatment even if you feel better. Stopping it early may make the infection come back and harder to treat. Nizonide-O Oral Suspension may cause dizziness. Refrain yourself from driving and operating a machine if you feel dizzy after taking this medicine. Avoid the consumption of alcohol while taking this medicine as it can cause dizziness. Use Nizonide-O Oral Suspension cautiously if you are having tendon rupture (injuries) and brain disorder. To make sure Nizonide-O Oral Suspension is safe for you, share your entire medical and medication history with your doctor before using this medicine. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or are breastfeeding.

Breast-feeding

Nizonide-O Oral Suspension is not recommended for use if you are breastfeeding. You may be advised by your doctor to discontinue breastfeeding while taking this medicine. Once breastfeeding gets resumed after the therapy, the baby should be observed for diarrhoea and yeast infection.
General warnings

Liver impairment

Nizonide-O Oral Suspension gets converted into its active form in your liver. An impaired liver cannot convert this medicine properly and accumulation of this medicine takes place in your liver. This accumulation may worsen your liver condition.

Use in children

Nizonide-O Oral Suspension is not recommended for use in babies below 1 year of age since the safety and efficacy of this medicine have not been clinically established.

Other uses

Your doctor may prescribe Nizonide-O Oral Suspension for indications other than those stated above in certain specific circumstances, especially if other medicines are ineffective. All the risks and benefits should be discussed with your doctor in such cases.

Antibiotic-resistance

Driving or Operating machinery

Photosensitivity

Nizonide-O Oral Suspension may make you highly sensitive to sunlight or UV (ultraviolet) radiation. You are advised to use sunscreen and wear protective clothing to avoid adverse reactions to sunlight during treatment with this medicine.

Muscle damage

Nizonide-O Oral Suspension can cause muscle damage usually on the tendons that surround your ankle. Inform your doctor if you feel pain, numbness, or tingling sensations in your muscles

Missed Dose

If you forget to take a Nizonide-O Oral Suspension dose, make sure that you remember to take your next dose on time. Do not take two doses together to make up for a forgotten dose.

Overdose

How it works
Nizonide-O Oral Suspension is a combination of Nitazoxanide and Ofloxacin. Ofloxacin works by inhibiting an enzyme required for the bacterial DNA to replicate, thus inhibiting bacterial cell division. Nitazoxanide interferes with the energy production of the parasites and prevents its growth that causes diarrhoea.
