Description
Nifty 150 MG Tablet SR is an antibiotic used to treat urinary tract infections. It works by killing the bacteria responsible for causing the infection. Nifty 150 MG Tablet SR is effective only for the treatment of infections caused by bacteria and not viruses or fungi. Nifty 150 MG Tablet SR shows common side effects such as headache, gas, upset stomach, diarrhoea, and vaginal itching or discharge. These side effects usually subside with time. However, if they persist or become worse, consult your doctor for further assistance. Avoid driving vehicles or operating heavy machines while taking this medication, as it can cause dizziness. Nifty 150 MG Tablet SR should be taken with food, milk, or juice to avoid stomach upset. Follow the instructions given by your doctor about the dose and duration of the treatment. Complete the course of treatment even if you start feeling better after a few doses. Do not discontinue the medication without consulting your doctor, as it may cause a risk of re-infection, which may be difficult to treat. Nifty 150 MG Tablet SR should be avoided if you are allergic to it. It is not recommended if you have severe kidney conditions, or a history of jaundice or liver problems caused by taking Nitrofurantoin. Allergy

Neonates

Haemolytic anaemia is a blood disorder that causes the abnormal destruction of red blood cells in the body. Nifty 150 MG Tablet SR is not recommended for use in infants below one month of age as it may cause haemolytic anaemia.

Men with urinary tract infections

Urinary tract infections in men are usually related to prostatitis (swelling of the prostate gland, a male reproductive organ that produces fluid to help transport sperm). Nifty 150 MG Tablet SR is not effective in treating urinary tract infections in men related to prostatitis.

65 years and older people

Nifty 150 MG Tablet SR is not recommended in the elderly above 65 years of age. When taken for a long duration, it has the potential to cause lung and liver toxicity and peripheral neuropathy (weakness, numbness, and pain from nerve damage, usually in the hands and feet).

Pregnancy

Nifty 150 MG Tablet SR is not recommended in the last two to four weeks of pregnancy or during delivery as this medicine may cause haemolytic anaemia in the foetus. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to get pregnant.

Breast-feeding

Small amounts of Nifty 150 MG Tablet SR is known to pass into breastmilk. Therefore, consult your doctor if you are breastfeeding.
General warnings

Lung condition

Nifty 150 MG Tablet SR may cause some respiratory complications if taken continuously for six or more months. Therefore, use it with caution if you have respiratory problems.

Impaired liver function

In rare cases, Nifty 150 MG Tablet SR may cause liver damage, swelling of the liver, or jaundice (yellow coloring of the skin or eyes caused by too much of a chemical substance called bilirubin in the body). Hence this medicine should be used with caution if you have liver problems. Your doctor may suggest tests for periodic monitoring of liver function during long-term treatment with this medicine.

Haemolytic anaemia

Use of Nifty 150 MG Tablet SR can cause haemolytic anaemia (abnormal destruction of red blood cells) if you have glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency (deficiency of a chemical responsible for the proper functioning of the red blood cells). Hence, caution should be taken if you have glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency. Your doctor may suggest tests for close monitoring of blood cell count.

Antibiotic resistance

Finish your entire course of treatment with Nifty 150 MG Tablet SR, even if your condition gets better after a few doses, to avoid antibiotic resistance (a condition in which the effectiveness of the antibiotic decreases against a bacteria). If you still feel unwell after completing your antibiotic course, make an appointment to consult your doctor.

Driving vehicles or operating machines

Nifty 150 MG Tablet SR may cause drowsiness or dizziness. Hence avoid driving vehicles or operating heavy machines after taking this medicine.

Missed Dose

Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency

Glucose-6-phosphate-dehydrogenase deficiency is a hereditary condition in which there is a deficiency of Glucose-6-phosphate-dehydrogenase, a chemical substance responsible for the proper functioning of red blood cells. This condition causes the premature breakdown of red blood cells in your body triggered by certain medications, infections, stress, etc. Nifty 150 MG Tablet SR should be used with caution as it may cause the abnormal breakdown of blood cells primarily if you have glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G-6-PD) deficiency. Your doctor may suggest necessary tests to monitor your blood cell count and haemoglobin level during treatment with this medicine.

Peripheral Neuropathy

Peripheral Neuropathy is a condition that causes weakness, numbness, and pain due to nerve damage, usually in the hands and feet. Nifty 150 MG Tablet SR may cause nerve damage, especially if you have kidney impairment, diabetes mellitus (high blood sugar level), anaemia (low red blood cell count), electrolyte imbalance, and vitamin B12 deficiency. Hence, this medicine should be used with caution if you have such conditions.

Colitis

Nifty 150 MG Tablet SR may alter the normal flora of the colon and cause diarrhoea. Hence, it should be used with caution if you have a history of stomach and intestinal problems, especially colitis (swelling of the colon), as it may worsen your condition.
