Description
NEOMYCIN 5 mg CREAM is an antibiotic used in combination with other medicines to suppress the normal bacteria in the bowel prior to operative procedures. It is also used in combination with other medicines for treating Hepatic Encephalopathy, by reducing the ammonia-forming bacteria in the intestines. It is used as a cream to prevent and treat bacterial infections of the skin. This medicine should be used with caution since it may cause hearing loss and severe adverse effects on the kidney.

General warnings

Aminoglycosides

This medicine is not recommended for use along with other aminoglycosides due to the increased risk of severe adverse effects including kidney damage and hearing loss.

Hearing Loss

This medicine should be used with caution due to the increased risk of hearing loss. Patients should drink plenty of fluids to avoid dehydration and minimize the risk of hearing loss. Close monitoring of hearing function is recommended during treatment with this medicine. Therapy should be discontinued or appropriate dose adjustments should be done if any symptoms of hearing loss appear.

Renal Dysfunction

This medicine should be used with extreme caution in patients with kidney diseases due to the increased risk of worsening of the patient's condition. Close monitoring of kidney function is recommended during treatment with this medicine. Any unusual symptoms should be reported to the doctor immediately. Appropriate dose adjustments or replacement with a suitable alternative may be necessary based on the clinical condition of the patient.

Missed Dose

If a dose is missed, take/apply the dose as soon as you remember it. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and take/apply the next dose. Do not double the dose to make up for the missed one.

Dehydration

This medicine is not recommended for use in patients with dehydration due to the increased risk of kidney damage and hearing loss. Dehydration should be corrected prior to starting treatment with this medicine. Patients should be closely monitored for any signs of dehydration and appropriate dose adjustments should be done based on the clinical condition.

Neuromuscular Blockade

This medicine should be used with caution due to the increased risk of a neuromuscular blockade and muscle weakness which may cause respiratory paralysis. This risk is especially higher in patients with a history of neuromuscular disorders such as Parkinson's syndrome or myasthenia gravis. Patients should be closely monitored for any signs of respiratory paralysis, and if any signs occur, the therapy should be discontinued and appropriate corrective measures should be taken immediately.
