Description
Mucomelt Forte Tablet contains Cefixime and Acetylcysteine. This medicine is used to treat many types of respiratory infections associated with excessive mucus secretion. This medicine also reduces the thickness of mucus, making it easier to cough it out. It works by killing or stopping the growth and multiplication of bacteria. Mucomelt Forte Tablet shows some common side effects like nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, indigestion, etc. It may also cause dizziness or drowsiness in some people. Avoid driving vehicles or operating machines if you feel dizzy or drowsy while taking this medicine. Avoid alcohol consumption as it may cause excessive drowsiness. Mucomelt Forte Tablet should be avoided in case you are allergic to it. Inform your doctor if you experience rashes, itching, swelling and shortness of breath while taking this medicine. Mucomelt Forte Tablet can be taken with or without food. Take this medicine as directed by your doctor and ensure to complete the entire course of this medicine. Do not stop taking this medicine on your own as it may reoccur and harder to treat. Mucomelt Forte Tablet may decrease the effectiveness of birth control pills and the cholera vaccine. This medicine should be used with caution in kidney problems, intestinal swelling and clotting/bleeding problems. Hence, inform your doctor about your current medicines and illness. . Mucomelt Forte Tablet may not be safe to use in pregnancy or in breastfeeding mothers. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding.

General warnings

Acute asthma

Asthma is a breathing difficulty caused due to narrowing of the airway and excess production of mucous. Mucomelt Forte Tablet is not recommended for use if you have a severe and sudden attack of asthma. It is advised to closely monitor people with asthma, during treatment with this medicine.

Antitussives

Antitussives are cough relieving medicines. Avoid using Mucomelt Forte Tablet along with other cough relieving medicines as it may lead to an increase in the secretion of mucous which may affect you.

Peptic ulcer

A peptic ulcer is an open sore that occurs on the inner lining of your stomach and the upper region of your small intestine. Use Mucomelt Forte Tablet with caution if you have peptic ulcer and stomach/intestinal bleeding.

Antibiotic resistance

Finish your entire course of treatment with Mucomelt Forte Tablet, even if your condition gets better to avoid antibiotic resistance (the bacteria may become resistant to antibiotics). If you still feel unwell after completing your antibiotic course, consult your doctor.

Diarrhoea

Mucomelt Forte Tablet can cause diarrhoea because it may also kill the helpful bacteria in your stomach or intestine, which leads to an increased toxin released by the Clostridium bacteria. Get emergency medical help if you experience severe diarrhoea that is watery or bloody. Call your pharmacist/doctor before taking anti-diarrhoeal medication.

Driving or operate a machine

Mucomelt Forte Tablet may cause dizziness or drowsiness. Do not drive vehicles or operate machines after taking this medicine.

Liver disease

Mucomelt Forte Tablet may increase liver enzyme levels and cause liver damage. Your doctor may adjust the dose of this medicine if required.

Missed Dose

If you missed a Mucomelt Forte Tablet dose, take it as soon as you remember. Do not double the dose to make up for the missed one.

Overdose

Do not take Mucomelt Forte Tablet more than the prescribed dose. Consult your doctor if you suspect that you might have taken an overdose of this medicine.

Mucomelt Forte Tablet can kill the helpful bacteria in your stomach or intestine and lead to diarrhoea. Therefore use Mucomelt Forte Tablet with extreme caution if you have gastrointestinal problems, particularly colitis (swelling of the inner lining of the colon) as it may worsen your condition.

Kidney diseases

Mucomelt Forte Tablet is filtered by the kidney and excreted through urine. You will need special consideration while taking Mucomelt Forte Tablet if you have any kidney problem due to the increased risk of kidney damage. Your doctor may adjust the dose of this medicine if required based on your condition.

Coombs test

The Coombs test is used to detect antibodies that act against the surface of your red blood cells. A false-positive result may be obtained if this test is performed while taking Mucomelt Forte Tablet.

Urine ketones test

The test measures ketone levels in your urine. Mucomelt Forte Tablet may give a false-positive result for ketones in the urine test using a reagent called Nitroprusside.
Take Mucomelt Forte Tablet with or without food but at the same time every day. Do not skip any dose and finish the course as suggested by your doctor. It is advisable to stay hydrated and drink plenty of water to overcome side effects. Be cautious while driving vehicles or doing anything that requires concentration as this medicine can cause drowsiness and dizziness. Avoid alcohol consumption as it may cause excessive drowsiness.
