Description
Metroquin tablet is a medicine that consists of Diloxanide Furoate and Tinidazole. It is used in the treatment of diarrhoea (loose, watery stools that occur more frequently than usual) and dysentery (infection of the intestines resulting in severe diarrhoea with the presence of blood and mucus in the faeces). This medicine works by preventing the growth of microorganisms like bacteria and parasites that cause infection. Metroquin tablet has some side effects like nausea, headache, dizziness, abdominal pain, etc. These side effects are mild and may subside by themselves. Consult your doctor if they bother you. Avoid driving vehicles or operating machines after using this medicine as it may make you feel sleepy and drowsy. Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to it. Metroquin tablet should be taken with food. Take it in the dose and for the duration prescribed by your doctor. You should take it regularly at the same time for the ease of remembering. Never take more than the prescribed dose. Complete the whole treatment prescribed by your doctor even if you feel better after taking a few doses. Consult your doctor if your symptoms have not improved even after taking this medicine for a week. Metroquin tablet is not recommended for use in children less than 12 years of age. Inform your doctor if you have liver, kidney, and any other health problems before taking this medicine. Also, let your doctor know about your ongoing medication. Metroquin tablet may cause neurological effects like convulsions (uncontrollable contractions of muscles) and peripheral neuropathy (a result of damage to the nerves located outside of the brain and spinal cord). Any symptoms of convulsions, tingling or burning sensation of hands and feet should be reported to the doctor immediately.

Liver disease

Use Metroquin tablet with caution if you have liver problems due to the increased risk of severe side effects. Your doctor may adjust the dose of this medicine and may closely monitor your liver functioning if required, based on your clinical condition.

Use in elderly
