Description
Metrogyl 400 MG Tablet is an antibacterial and antiprotozoal agent, which is used in treating the various infections of the gastrointestinal tract, genital areas, joints, skin, and other areas of the body. It is also used for the prophylaxis of sexually transmitted diseases. It is not recommended to take alcohol with this medicine. Take this medicine only if it is necessary to reduce the development of resistance.

This medicine is not recommended for use in patients with a known allergy to metronidazole, other nitroimidazoles, or any other inactive ingredients present in the formulation.
Warnings for special population

Pregnancy

This medicine is not recommended in the first trimester of pregnancy to treat bacterial vaginosis and trichomoniasis. It can be used in the second and third trimesters of pregnancy only if clearly needed. All the risks and benefits should be discussed with the doctor before taking this medicine.

Breast-feeding

This medicine is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women unless absolutely necessary. All the risks and benefits should be discussed with the doctor before taking this medicine. Your doctor may advise you to discontinue the drug or to discontinue breastfeeding based on your clinical condition
General warnings

Blood cell count

Use of this medicine may lower the blood cell count and may lead to leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, and bone marrow aplasia. Close monitoring of WBC count, platelets is necessary. Discontinue the treatment if any signs of low blood cell count appear.

Neurologic Toxicity

Use of this medicine may cause neurological effects like convulsions and peripheral neuropathy. Inform the doctor if you have any neurological problems. Any symptoms of convulsions, tingling or burning sensation of hands and feet should be reported to the doctor.

Liver Disease

This medicine should be used with caution in patients with liver diseases due to the increased risk of severe adverse effects. Regular monitoring of liver function, appropriate dose adjustments, or replacement with a suitable alternative may be required in some cases based on the clinical condition.

Dialysis

The desired effect of this medicine is not achieved in dialysis patients. It is necessary to schedule the dose for administration after dialysis procedure or supplemental doses can be given after dialysis

Chronic therapy

This medicine should not be used unnecessarily unless instructed by the doctor because it can increase the risk of developing resistance to this medicine and it can increase the risk of additional infections.

Driving or Operating machinery

Use of this medicine may cause blurred vision or dizziness in some patients. It is advised that you do not perform any activities such as driving a vehicle or operating machinery if you experience any of these symptoms during treatment with this medicine.

Missed Dose

Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not double your dose to make up for the missed one.

Report any incidence of severe or persistent diarrhea, abdominal pain, blood in stools, etc. to the doctor immediately. Appropriate corrective measures, dose adjustments or replacement with a suitable alternative may be required based on the clinical condition.

Blood Dyscrasias

This medicine should be used with caution in patients with low blood counts or bone marrow depression due to the increased risk of leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, etc. Regular monitoring of complete blood count is necessary for such patients. Appropriate corrective measures, dose adjustments or replacement with a suitable alternative may be required based on the clinical condition.
