Description
Metarub-S Ointment is a combination of Mometasone and Salicylic acid. It is used to treat many skin conditions such as psoriasis (itchy, red and scaly skin), eczema (red, cracked and patchy skin), dermatitis (dry and itchy skin) of the scalp, etc. Metarub-S Ointment works by reducing the swelling, redness, rash and itching at the affected site. It softens and loosens the scaly or thickened skin and sheds the dried skin. Metarub-S Ointment rarely shows side effects. However, using for a long time may cause side effects such as sensitive skin, redness, itching, burning sensation, etc. Notify your doctor if these conditions do not subside with time or worsen. Metarub-S Ointment is meant for external use only. Do not use it for more than the time prescribed by your doctor. Before application at the affected site, clean the area with water and dry it. Apply a thin layer over the affected site and spread evenly. Metarub-S Ointment is not advisable if you are allergic to it or have a fungal infection on your skin. Avoid contact with your eyes, lips, or mouth. Wash them out immediately with water if it comes in contact with any of these areas. Metarub-S Ointment may interact with other medicines therefore inform your doctor if you are undergoing any medication. Breastfeeding mothers should make sure to prevent the contact of this medicine to their infant. Do not breastfeed if applied around your nipples. This medicine is usually safe to use in pregnancy. However, it is always better to consult your doctor before using it.

Salicylism

Prolonged use of Metarub-S Ointment may lead to a toxic condition marked by ringing in the ears, nausea, and vomiting (salicylism) in some patients.

External use only

Metarub-S Ointment is only recommended for external use. Avoid contact with your mouth, eyes, mucous membranes, cuts, grazes, or wounds.

Recurrence of infections

Use of Metarub-S Ointment can cause reoccurrence of psoriasis in patients who have recently recovered from it. It is advised to conduct suitable diagnostic tests before starting the treatment with this medicine. Special precaution is advised while taking this medicine who has recently recovered from tuberculosis.

Long term use

High doses of Metarub-S Ointment should not be used for more than two weeks due to the increased risk of side effects. If required, low doses can be used for the long term only under the supervision of your doctor.

Other medicines

Metarub-S Ointment may interact with many other medicines and may cause adverse effects. Hence, it is advised that you inform your doctor about all your current medicines before beginning treatment with this medicine.

Missed Dose

Apply the missed dose of Metarub-S Ointment as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not double your dose to make up for the missed one.

Incomplete therapy or not complying with the therapy of Metarub-S Ointment or similar corticosteroids is reported to cause adrenal gland suppression. Risk for this condition is higher when this medicine is used for a prolonged time.

How it works
Metarub-S Ointment is a combination of Mometasone and Salicylic acid. Mometasone works by decreasing the release of certain substances that cause swelling and irritation.
