Description

Mepride 2 MG Tablet is a long-acting oral anti-diabetic which lower the blood sugar level. It is used only in patients diagnosed with Type II Diabetes. It may be used along with Insulin or other medicines in order to achieve better control over the blood sugar levels. This medicine, when taken along with a controlled diet and regular exercise routine, may give better results.

General warnings

Hypoglycemia

Mepride 2 MG Tablet can cause moderate to severe lowering of blood glucose levels. The risks are even greater in elderly, malnourished, people with kidney and pituitary gland disorders. You should report any such incidence to the doctor. Carry a reliable source of glucose like sugar candy to counteract the effect of low blood sugar levels.

Stress

Use of this medicine should be discontinued in patients exposed to stressful conditions such as a fever, trauma, surgeries, or accidents since it may not be effective in controlling blood sugar levels in these conditions. Replacement with a suitable alternative should be considered under your doctor's supervision.

Liver/Kidney disease

Mepride 2 MG Tablet should be administered with caution in patients with a disorder of kidney and/or liver. Suitable dosage adjustments and monitoring of blood sugar levels are necessary in such cases.

Allergy

This medicine is not recommended for use in patients with known history of allergy to Mepride 2 MG Tablet or other drugs belonging to the Sulphonamide class of antidiabetic medicines.

Fluid Retention

Mepride 2 MG Tablet can cause retention of fluid in some cases that may lead to severe and harmful effects on the body.

Heart Disease

Weight gain

Hemolytic Anemia

Mepride 2 MG Tablet can cause Hemolytic Anemia if you have a rare genetic disorder called G6PD Deficiency.

Alcohol use

Consumption of alcohol is not recommended while on treatment with Mepride 2 MG Tablet due to the increased risk of severe adverse effects.

Photo-sensitivity

Mepride 2 MG Tablet may cause allergic skin reactions when exposed to the sun. Take precautionary skin protection measures while going out into sun if you are taking this medicine.

Change of drugs

You may experience some temporary side effects if there is a change in current medication. This overlapping effect is because of the change from one medicine to another. Regular monitoring of blood sugar levels might be required in these cases.

Missed Dose

The missed dose can be taken as soon as you remember. If it is time for the next dosage then the missed dose can be skipped.

Overdose

It is recommended to discontinue the medication and contact your doctor immediately if an overdose is suspected. Symptoms like dizziness, confusion, increased heartbeat, tremor and sweating after taking the medication should be reported immediately.

Kidney disease

Mepride 2 MG Tablet should be administered with extreme caution in patients with impaired kidney function. It is advised to consult your doctor to make a suitable adjustment in dosage and/or time-interval between two dosages.

Liver disease

Mepride 2 MG Tablet should be administered with extreme caution in patients with impaired liver function. It is advised to consult your doctor to make a suitable adjustment in dosage and/or time-interval between two dosages.

Hypoglycemia

Mepride 2 MG Tablet should be administered with caution in if you are prone to having episodes of low blood sugar especially in diabetics who are also malnourished or those receiving Beta-blocker drugs such as Metoprolol and Propranolol.

Hemolytic Anemia/G6PD Deficiency

This medicine is not recommended for use in patients with a history of Hemolytic Anemia or patients with G6PD deficiency due to the increased risk of worsening of the patient's condition. Appropriate dose adjustments or replacement with a suitable alternative may be required in some cases based on the clinical condition.
