Description
Mecespas Tablet is a combination medicine that consists of Dicyclomine and Mefenamic acid. It is used to relieve menstrual cramps and pain. It is also used to provide relief from pain due to muscle spasms in the stomach and intestines. Mecespas Tablet works by stopping the release of chemicals called prostaglandins that are responsible for pain and swelling. Mecespas Tablet may cause some side effects like dizziness, sleepiness, stomach upset, dry mouth, blurred vision, nausea and vomiting. Consult your doctor if these side effects persist or worsen. Avoid taking it if you are allergic to this medicine. Mecespas Tablet is not recommended for use in children below 12 years of age. Mecespas Tablet should be taken with food to avoid stomach irritation. The dose of medicine and duration of treatment will be decided by your doctor based on your condition. For the ease of remembering, take it at around the same time every day. Do not stop using this medicine without consulting your doctor. Mecespas Tablet may cause dizziness or visual disturbances. Maintain caution while driving or doing anything that requires concentration. Avoid consuming alcohol while taking this medicine as it can increase your risk of stomach problems. Maintain caution while using Mecespas Tablet if you have kidney and liver problems. Inform the doctor if you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding before taking this medicine.

Allergy

Avoid taking Mecespas Tablet if you are allergic to it. Seek immediate medical attention if you notice any symptoms of serious allergic reactions such as skin rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, breathing difficulty, etc.

Gastrointestinal ulcers

Mecespas Tablet may cause stomach and intestinal bleeding if you have ulcers. Therefore it is not recommended for use if you have perforation disorders like stomach ulcers as it may worsen the condition.

Coronary artery bypass surgery (CABG)

Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery is a surgical procedure that increases blood flow to the heart. Do not use Mecespas Tablet for relieving pain after heart surgery as it may cause serious undesirable effects.

Asthma

Mecespas Tablet is not recommended for use if you have asthma especially when you experienced allergic reactions with the use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medicines.

Driving or operating machinery

Missed Dose

Fluid retention

Mecespas Tablet may cause oedema (swelling that is caused by fluid trapped in your body's tissues). Therefore, it should be used with extreme caution if you have a pre-existing condition of fluid retention.

Kidney diseases

Prolonged use of Mecespas Tablet may cause symptoms like painful urination and protein or blood in the urine. Hence this medicine should be used cautiously if you have a kidney problem. Your doctor may monitor your kidney function as needed based on your condition.

Liver disease

Mecespas Tablet should be used with caution if you have liver problems as it may lead to liver damage due to its accumulation in the liver in unchanged form. Your doctor may monitor your liver function as needed based on your condition.

Heart disease

Mecespas Tablet may increase the risk of a heart attack if you have pre-existing heart conditions or heart failure. This medicine is not used for treating pain after coronary bypass surgery.

Diazo test for urinary bile

Diazo test is performed for estimation of pigments in urine. Treatment with Mecespas Tablet may give a false-positive result for this test. It is advised to inform the doctor and lab technician about the use of this medicine before undergoing this test.
Mecespas Tablet should preferably be taken with food. If you get diarrhoea while taking this medicine, stop taking it and consult your doctor. This medicine may cause dry mouth. Hence mouth rinses, good oral hygiene and increased water intake may help. It may cause dizziness, drowsiness or visual disturbances. Hence, do not drive or operate machines after taking it. Avoid consuming alcohol while taking Mecespas Tablet as it can cause excessive drowsiness and increase your risk of stomach problems. Avoid giving your medicine to other people even if their condition appears to be the same as yours. Do not break, crush or chew the tablet in the mouth. Consume the tablet immediately after peeling it from the strip.
