Description
Lumerax-80 Tablet is an antimalarial medicine that consists of Artemether and Lumefantrine. It is used to treat malaria when other antimalarial medications become ineffective. This medicine works by killing the parasite causing malaria and prevents the spread of infection. Lumerax-80 Tablet should not be used in severe malaria (vital organs like brain, lungs, kidneys, etc. are involved) or in the prevention of malaria. Lumerax-80 Tablet may cause side effects like headache, loss of appetite, weakness, joint/muscle pain, fever, nausea, vomiting, etc. Consult your doctor if these side effects are troubling you. Avoid driving or doing any activity that requires mental focus as this medicine can make you feel dizzy. Lumerax-80 Tablet should be taken with food or as prescribed by your doctor. Take plenty of water to avoid any stomach irritation. You should not skip any doses. Complete the whole course to see the maximum benefits. Avoid discontinuation of this medicine without consulting your doctor as the symptoms may reappear. It may also make it more difficult to treat your infection. Lumerax-80 Tablet is not recommended if you have a known allergy to it. Inform your doctor about all the medicines you are taking as they can interact with Lumerax-80 Tablet and reduce its therapeutic effect. Lumerax-80 Tablet is not used in pregnancy or for breastfeeding women unless prescribed by your doctor. If you have any medical conditions of the liver, kidney, or any other health conditions, then report them to your doctor. Your doctor may adjust your dose to safely use this medicine.

General warnings

Drug resistance

It is important to take Lumerax-80 Tablet for the entire prescribed duration even if you feel better after some doses. If you fail to do so, the parasite will change over time and no longer respond to the medicine. Hence, further treatment of infection with this medicine would become difficult.

Severe complicated malarial infection

Lumerax-80 Tablet is not recommended for use if you have a severe and complicated malarial infection. In this form of malaria, many vital organs like the brain, lungs, kidney, etc are involved and often result in organ failure and abnormalities in your blood.

Hormonal contraceptives

Lumerax-80 Tablet may interact and alter the effectiveness of hormonal contraceptives. Hence, alternative or additional means of contraception may be necessary based on your clinical condition.

QT prolongation

Lumerax-80 Tablet should be used with extreme caution if you have heart conditions such as QT prolongation (electrical disturbance in the heart) as this medicine can alter your heartbeats. Be cautious if you have other heart problems or are taking any other medicine that might prolong the QT intervals. Your doctor may adjust the dose and/or frequently monitor your heart functions to use this medicine safely.

Missed Dose

Take the missed dose of Lumerax-80 Tablet as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not double your dose to make up for the missed one.

Overdose

If you have consumed more than the prescribed amount of Lumerax-80 Tablet then you may experience complications like breathing difficulties, lightheadedness, fainting, loss of coordination, fast heartbeats, etc. Consult a doctor immediately so that overdose treatment can be initiated.

Take Lumerax-80 Tablet with food or milk for better absorption of this medicine. Take Lumerax-80 Tablet as prescribed by your doctor and complete the whole course. However, if your symptoms do not improve or worsen, consult your doctor. Avoid discontinuation of this medicine without consulting your doctor. If you vomit within 1 to 2 hours after taking Lumerax-80 Tablet, take another full dose of this medicine. Contact your doctor if you vomit again after taking the extra dose. Lumerax-80 Tablet may cause dizziness so do not do any activity that requires mental focus like driving. Do not stand up too fast as it can make you feel dizzy. Avoid consuming alcohol while taking this medicine as it can worsen your dizziness.

How it works
Lumerax-80 Tablet is a combination of two antiparasitic medicines: Artemether and Lumefantrine, which treats malaria. These medicines work by interacting with haeme (a component of haemoglobin protein) in the blood. This results in the formation of substances toxic to the malarial parasite. Thus, it kills the parasite and prevents the spread of infection.
