Description
Losartas-A (5/50 mg) Tablet is a combination of Amlodipine and Losartan. It is an anti-hypertensive medicine used for the treatment of high blood pressure. Losartas-A (5/50 mg) Tablet relaxes the heart muscles and widens the blood vessels, which decreases blood pressure and makes it easier for your heart to pump blood throughout your body. Losartas-A (5/50 mg) Tablet shows common side effects like headache, drowsiness, dizziness, swelling of feet and ankles, tiredness and stomach upset. Most of these side effects do not require medical attention and disappear with time. If these symptoms worsen, consult your doctor. Losartas-A (5/50 mg) Tablet can be taken with or without food. Your doctor will decide the dosage based on your clinical condition. Do not self-medicate or stop taking it without your doctor's recommendation as it can lead to withdrawal symptoms. Be careful while standing up from a sitting or lying down position as Losartas-A (5/50 mg) Tablet may sometimes cause dizziness. Avoid taking Losartas-A (5/50 mg) Tablet with alcohol and grapefruit juice as it can cause dizziness. Losartas-A (5/50 mg) Tablet is not recommended if you have liver and kidney problems or have high potassium levels in your blood. Losartas-A (5/50 mg) Tablet is not recommended in children below 6 years, pregnant women and breastfeeding women unless prescribed by your doctor.

General warnings

Hyperkalaemia

Losartas-A (5/50 mg) Tablet may increase the potassium levels (hyperkalaemia) in the body by preventing the excretion of potassium from the kidneys. Avoid potassium-rich foods or supplements while you are on this medication. Your doctor will suggest tests to regularly monitor your potassium levels. Your doctor may also adjust the dose of this medicine based on your clinical condition.

Use in children

Losartas-A (5/50 mg) Tablet is not recommended for use in children below 6 years of age since the safety and efficacy data of the use of this medicine in that group are not clinically established.

Liver disease

Use Losartas-A (5/50 mg) Tablet with caution if you have liver problems. Losartas-A (5/50 mg) Tablet is broken down in your liver. Having liver problems may increase the accumulation of this medicine in your body which may damage your liver further. Your doctor will suggest tests to regularly monitor your liver function. Aortic stenosis

Aortic Stenosis is the narrowing of the valve of the aorta (the largest blood vessel that branches off from your heart). Losartas-A (5/50 mg) Tablet should be used with extreme caution if you have aortic stenosis due to the increased risk of hypotension (low blood pressure). It is recommended that you regularly monitor your blood pressure while taking this medicine. Your doctor may adjust the dose of the medicine as per requirements.

Driving and operating machines

Losartas-A (5/50 mg) Tablet may cause dizziness or drowsiness in some people. Avoid performing activities that require mental alertness like driving vehicles or operating machines if you experience any of these symptoms while taking this medicine.

Renal Impairment

Losartas-A (5/50 mg) Tablet should be used carefully if you have kidney problems like renal artery stenosis (narrowing of the arteries that carry blood to the kidneys) and/or volume depletion (excess loss of salt and fluid leading to reduced fluid volume). Your doctor will suggest tests to regularly monitor your kidney function while taking this medicine in such conditions.

Missed Dose

Congestive heart failure

Congestive heart failure occurs when your heart muscle is not able to pump blood normally. Losartas-A (5/50 mg) Tablet should be used with caution if you have congestive heart failure as it may increase the risk of severe hypotension (low blood pressure) and acute kidney damage. It is recommended that you regularly monitor your blood pressure while you are taking this medicine. Your doctor will suggest tests to monitor your kidney function while on treatment with this medicine.

Severe hypotension or cardiogenic shock

Losartas-A (5/50 mg) Tablet should be taken with caution in conditions like cardiogenic shock (a life-threatening condition where the heart suddenly stops pumping blood to the body) or if you have severe hypotension (low blood pressure) due to increased risk of heart failure. It is recommended that you closely monitor your blood pressure. Your doctor may adjust the dose of the medicine depending on your clinical condition.
