Description
Listril Plus (12.5/5 mg) Tablet is a combination of Hydrochlorothiazide and Lisinopril. It is mainly used for the treatment of hypertension (increased blood pressure) when a single medicine is not effective. It helps in reducing the risk of future heart complications such as heart attack (blockage of heart muscles due to the formation of plaques) and stroke (brain damage that occurs when the blood flow to a part of the brain is reduced or interrupted). Listril Plus (12.5/5 mg) Tablet helps in relaxing the blood vessels of the heart and thereby reduces blood pressure. Listril Plus (12.5/5 mg) Tablet shows side effects that include dizziness, headache, breathing difficulty, diarrhoea, stomach discomfort, weakness and low blood pressure. Talk to your doctor if these symptoms persist for a longer time. Do not take this medicine if you are previously allergic to it. If you feel dizzy or tired, avoid driving vehicles or operating heavy machines. Listril Plus (12.5/5 mg) Tablet can be taken with or without food. This tablet causes frequent urination. Take this tablet during the day to avoid frequent urination at night. For the ease of remembering, take it around the same time every day. You may have to take this medicine for a longer duration depending on your health condition. Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor advises you to stop. Listril Plus (12.5/5 mg) Tablet is not recommended for use in children as safety is not established. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or are breastfeeding before taking this medicine. Frequent monitoring of blood pressure, electrolyte level, kidney function and liver enzymes are necessary during treatment with Listril Plus (12.5/5 mg) Tablet.

Allergy

It may rather cause side effects. Hence, avoid using it in elderly people with diabetes and kidney problems.

Severe renal impairment

Avoid taking Listril Plus (12.5/5 mg) Tablet if you have severe kidney damage or any medical condition that can affect your kidneys as it may increase the creatinine levels leading to worsening of your health condition.

Liver dysfunction

If you notice any symptoms of jaundice like yellow discolouration of your skin, eyes and nails or light, clay-coloured stools, inform your doctor immediately.

Volume and electrolyte depletion

Listril Plus (12.5/5 mg) Tablet may alter your blood volume and electrolyte levels if you have kidney and liver problems. Therefore, if you are taking this medicine, your blood pressure and electrolyte levels need to be monitored regularly.

Kidney diseases

Listril Plus (12.5/5 mg) Tablet may cause Azotemia (increased blood urea nitrogen and creatinine level in the body) if you have a known history of severe kidney problems. Your kidney function needs to be closely monitored while you are taking this medicine.

Hypotension

Listril Plus (12.5/5 mg) Tablet may cause symptomatic hypotension (low blood pressure) in some patients with volume depletion (decrease in body fluids) or those treated with high dose diuretics (a substance that increases the production of urine). Hence, the treatment is always started with low doses.

Hyperkalaemia

Hyperkalemia (a condition with an increase in the potassium levels in the blood) is one of the side effects of Listril Plus (12.5/5 mg) Tablet. Hence, maintain caution while using potassium-sparing diuretics or potassium supplements if you have a kidney problem.

Use in children

Do not use Listril Plus (12.5/5 mg) Tablet in children due to the lack of safety and efficacy studies.

Driving and operating machines

Listril Plus (12.5/5 mg) Tablet may cause dizziness, drowsiness or blurred vision in some people. Do not drive vehicles or operate machines after taking this medicine.

Missed Dose

Try not to skip the dose of Listril Plus (12.5/5 mg) Tablet. In case the scheduled dose of Listril Plus (12.5/5 mg) Tablet is forgotten, take it as soon as you remember. Skip the dose if the delay has been for more than 12 hours. Take the next dose at the scheduled time. Do not double the dose to make up for the missed dose.

Overdose

Never take more than the prescribed dose. Seek emergency medical treatment or contact your doctor in case you suspect an overdose of Listril Plus (12.5/5 mg) Tablet.

Hyperuricemia

Listril Plus (12.5/5 mg) Tablet may increase the risk of hyperuricaemia (increased uric acid in the blood). If you have any history of gout (swelling and pain due to the accumulation of uric acid in the joints) or kidney failure, use this medicine cautiously. Your doctor will suggest tests to check your uric acid levels and also your kidney functions.

Angioedema

Avoid Listril Plus (12.5/5 mg) Tablet if you have a history of angioedema (accumulation of fluid under the skin) due to the increased risk of recurrent symptoms.

How it works
Listril Plus (12.5/5 mg) Tablet is a combination medication consisting of Hydrochlorothiazide and Lisinopril. Hydrochlorothiazide is a diuretic that mainly increases the excretion of water and sodium through the urine. It also relaxes blood vessels and promotes the smooth flow of blood. Lisinopril is an Angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor that relaxes the blood vessels and thereby reduces pressure in the blood vessels.
