Allergy

Benign prostatic hyperplasia

This medicine is not recommended for use in patients suffering from benign prostatic hyperplasia due to the increased risk of worsening of the patient's condition.

Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOI)

Use of this medicine is not recommended if the patient has taken MAO inhibitors like selegiline or rasagiline within the last 14 days. Their combination may increase the risk of adverse effects like drowsiness, blurred vision, as well as a life-threatening condition called serotonin syndrome.

Hypertension

This medicine is not recommended for use in patients suffering from severe hypertension since it may worsen the patient's condition.

Ventricular tachycardia

This medicine is not recommended for use in patients with ventricular tachycardia since it may worsen the condition of the patient.

Causes sleepiness

How it works
Dextromethorphan blocks the signals from the brain that trigger cough reflex and thus it helps in suppressing the cough. Phenylephrine acts by reducing the swelling of the blood vessels in the nasal passages, making it easier to breathe. Chlorpheniramine blocks the action of certain substances produced by the body which induce allergic reactions. Thus, this combination is better effective for treating symptoms caused by various conditions such as a common cold, sinusitis, rhinitis, etc.
