Phenylephrine acts by reducing the swelling of the blood vessels in the nasal passages, making it easier to breathe. Chlorpheniramine blocks the action of certain substances produced by the body which induces allergic reactions. Sodium citrate works by neutralizing acid in the stomach and urine. Menthol causes a feeling of coolness and also reduces itching and pain. Their combination is thus effective for treating the common cold and cough associated with fever.
