Ketotifen

Description

Ketotifen, the primary constituent of Ketotifen, is available in the oral as well as ophthalmic dosage forms. The oral forms of this medicine are used for the treatment of allergic rhinitis; they may also be used for the prevention of asthma attacks. The ophthalmic forms of this medicine are used for the treatment of allergic conjunctivitis. The oral form of this medicine is not recommended for use in patients less than 6 months of age. The ophthalmic form of this medicine is not recommended for use in patients less than 3 years of age.

Driving or Operating Machinery

Use of this medicine may cause symptoms such as blurred vision, dizziness, etc. in some patients. It is advised that you do not perform any activities such as driving a vehicle or operating machinery if you experience any of these symptoms during treatment with this medicine.

Seizures

This medicine should be used with caution in patients with a history of seizure disorders due to the increased risk of recurrent seizures. Report any unusual symptoms to the doctor immediately. Close monitoring of the patient's condition, appropriate dose adjustments, or replacement with a suitable alternative may be required based on the clinical condition.

Pediatric Use

Ophthalmic Forms: This medicine is not recommended for use in patients less than 3 years of age since the safety and efficacy of use are not clinically established. Oral Forms: This medicine is not recommended for use in patients less than 6 months of age since the safety and efficacy of use are not clinically established.

Missed Dose

Oral Use: Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not double your dose to make up for the missed one. Ophthalmic Use: Administer the missed dose as soon as you remember. It is advisable to skip the missed dose if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose. Do not instill a double dose to make up for the missed one.
